Court day just wrapped up in the last hour.
That's the Matthew Farwell trial. Boston 25
news reporter Ryan Breslin live outside
the federal courthouse where jurors heard from
another five witnesses just today, Ryan.
Carrie, that's right. And one of the witnesses describes
herself as best friends with Sandra Birchmore.
She says that she bought Birchmore a baby stroller
after she learned that she was pregnant
and she was going to be the godmother of Birchmore's baby.
She says that she went
to Canton Police after she learned of Birchmore's death
because she wanted investigators
to know about Birchmore's relationship with Matthew Farwell.
A full day of testimony in the Matthew Farwell trial Thursday.
Jurors hearing from Sandra Birchmore's close friend Leslie Davis.
The prosecution asking Davis, quote,
How soon into your friendship did she mention Matthew Farwell?
Almost immediately, said Davis.
The prosecution following up, approximately how old
do you think Sandra was when she told you about Matthew Farwell?
15, Davis said.
Davis telling jurors, Birchmore wanted to be a mother
and always wanted Farwell to be the father of her child.
That witness describing a fight between Birchmore
and Farwell where she says he pushed Birchmore to the ground
after she asked him to sign the baby's birth certificate but wouldn't.
wouldn't. When Birchmore died,
Davis says she went to Canton police, but says no notes were
taken by officers. A sticking point in the trial has
been Farwell's appearance in surveillance
footage at Birchmore's apartment
when he's seen wearing a mask in and out. Stoughton Police
Sergeant Robert Kuhn testifying Thursday
that he never saw Farwell wearing a mask if it wasn't
required, and that stood out in the video.
Quote, for him to be wearing a mask was odd. Yes, Kuhn
said he despised them.
Stoughton Police Chief Donna McNamara also saying, quote, he did not
like wearing masks and was pretty vocal about it.
The prosecution also alleges that Farwell
committed a crime by lying to the town
and meeting Birchmore for sex while on the clock as an
officer. The prosecution asking Chief McNamara,
quote, is it permissible for a Stoughton police
officer while on duty to go have sex with someone in a car?
No, said McNamara. Farwell's defense is
that Birchmore died by suicide.
The defense asking Leslie Davis on the stand today whether
she knew that Birchmore was on antidepressants
and that she had one previous suicide attempt.
Tomorrow, we're expecting to see two members of the FBI take the stand.
Now we're live in Boston.
