All right, more news coming your way.
We have continued coverage of the incident we first
started following on Saturday.
That is the video that has now gone viral, where you see an ICE
vehicle unmarked run over an undocumented migrant here in Houston.
That man was significantly
injured, broke his leg in three different places,
also had injuries to his hip. But there's been so
many more developments in this case today alone.
Let's go to our McKenna Earnhardt now, who's
giving us details where we learned that it
is now being reported that the driver, the ICE agent who
drove that vehicle is now on leave.
Local advocacy groups like Fiel Houston are calling this a major
step forward. Though we do want to note that Fox 26
is still waiting to independently confirm
this status change. We've reached out to both local
and federal agencies.
The news that we got today was that the officer
that hit Mr. Miguel Parra is now on administrative
leave and that's a good first step in the right direction
but you know we believe that this ice
officer should have never been out there the the lack
of responsibility the lack of training the
lack of empathy that these officers showed leading up to this pursuit
and then afterwards is mind
boggling to recap how we got here back on saturday near clay road
and highway six the harris county
Sheriff's Office says ICE agents pursued
a white truck carrying two men. The truck went the wrong
way down Clay Road before pulling over. Both men ran.
One escaped, but the second, identified as
Miguel Parra Hernandez, was hit by an ICE vehicle,
suffering a broken leg that required surgery.
Now, major questions are emerging about
the man ICE claimed to be targeting,
Jose Mendoza Cervantes.
According to reporting from the New York Times, a woman claiming to be
the daughter of the man ICE says it was trying
to detain has actually been dead for nine years.
Fox 26 also received a phone call
from a woman claiming that exact same detail,
though we were unable to reach her back for further clarification.
Parr's attorneys maintained her client do not know Cervantes
and insist the wanted target was never in that truck.
The daughter called Fiel and expressed
her concerns with ICE using her father's photo
and exploiting her father's photo as somebody
who they were after when the entire time immigration
knew that he had already been deceased.
So it couldn't have been the intended target at any
We've reached out to the Department of Homeland Security regarding
these allegations as well as the agent's status.
We'll bring you those updates as soon as we get them.
For Fox26, I'm McKenna Earnhardt.
