More bodies found in Houston's Buffalo Bayou

Let's talk about the bayous here in the city, right? For years now, we've been having this conversation. We know that sometimes we, police, find bodies in various bayous, and today was no different. We found out that another body was found in Buffalo Bayou, and if you look at the dates here that we've been tracking, in the last two weeks or so, this is now the fourth body found. So that is cause for concern, and we know folks at home have been questioning whether or not there was a serial killer here in Houston in the past, but let's focus on today right now with our McKenna Earnhardt. McKenna, what can you tell us about the latest situation here? Yeah, Anthony, I'm here at James Butte Park by the McKee Street Bridge, where it was around 9.30 this morning where police say that a person was walking and saw a body floating in the bayou here. Now, they say they believe the man to be 23 years old, but because the body has been in the water for a while, they can't confirm who he is or how he died just yet. But the man's body had no obvious signs of trauma. Sergeant Michael Caso with HPD told us they're treating this as a homicide investigation for now while they wait on the medical examiner. We're going to investigate it as a homicide as we do, unless a medical examiner makes their determination. It's a male, deceased male, I believe he's in his early 20s. Appears to be a Hispanic male. I don't know that right now based off the water, he's been in there quite a while. So Anthony, of course, police are saying if you know anything to please contact them. Back to you. All right, McKenna, I got a couple of follow ups here. So I mean, when folks at home are hearing that another body has been found in the bayou in this short window of time, we're looking at four now in the last two weeks. Do police believe that these are connected in any way, shape or form? Yeah, Anthony. So right now, police have only connected those first two cases. So back on September 29th and October 2nd, two 20-year-old men were found shot to death in different parts of the bayou. Please tell us that those two men were friends who disappeared at the same time. Now, they were found in different parts of the bayou, and they do believe that those homicides are linked. Now, as for yesterday's body found near North York Street and this one today, HPD says that it's still simply too early to tell as they are working to figure out the cause of death in both of those cases here. Now we also reached out to the medical examiner's office to see how many bodies have been found in 2026, not just in these last two weeks. And so we haven't heard back on those numbers yet.
