We are learning more about the police shooting earlier today
at a motel off of I-35 in Oak Cliff.
Good evening, I'm Casey Stegall.
Tow trucks just hauled away two vehicles from that scene,
a black Mercedes and a white Mercedes.
It is still not clear if or how this is related
to the shooting death earlier today.
A man wanted on felony warrants died in a confrontation with officers.
Police say he shot himself.
Let's get right to Fox News' Peyton Jaeger,
who is live as this new information comes in.
Peyton. Hi, Casey. Yeah,
Dallas police just within the last few minutes cleared this scene.
And Dallas police tell us they used Flock cameras
to pinpoint the suspect here at the Mustang Inn
right off of I-35. Again, within the last few minutes,
two of those vehicles getting towed away.
Now, we know this suspect was wanted for multiple felonies.
Officers arriving on scene at the
Mustang Inn just after 12:20 this afternoon
to serve those warrants for narcotics and also
probation violations.
Police providing only preliminary information on the confrontation
saying the suspect was armed with two guns,
opening the door armed with a rifle pointed
at officers and one officer fired shots toward the male suspect.
Initially on social media,
Dallas police said officers fired and struck the suspect,
but then during a news briefing
this afternoon with reporters,
DPD said the suspect had a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
The suspect remained armed.
Officers gave repeated verbal commands, which the suspect
did not follow. The suspect then fired his weapon at himself,
sustaining a self-inflicted
gunshot wound. Whether the officer's gunfire struck
that suspect is still under investigation,
and it's still unclear if the suspect even fired his weapon at officers
or ever fired his weapon
at officers. So we do know that no officers
were injured in this shooting. Now the identity of the
suspect that has not been released by police.
We just know the male suspect was at the center of
a narcotics investigation,
wanted for narcotics and also wanted for a probation violation.
We do know that Dallas police set to release
that body camera video within the next 72 hours.
That is standard protocol for the department.
