Prosecutors continuing to build
their case against Naresh Bhatt, the man accused of
murdering his wife, Mamta Koffel.
Today, the jurors getting the chance to see new photos
from the crime scene. Fox 5's Stephanie Ramirez
is outside the Prince William County Courthouse.
And we heard investigators talk about before how they used
a Blue Star liquid agent in the home
and that it lit up, detecting possible traces of blood.
Well, today we got to see what that
looks like for the first time. Get a look at your screens here.
A former Prince William County
forensics investigator testifying
that this is a large section of carpet they took from the
defendant's master bedroom, blue starring it again,
back at their office and taking these
photos. A small square was cut for DNA testing.
Earlier, we also heard the moment Naresh Bhatt
appeared to change his tone in an August 18th interview done
with an independent journalist
who was from Nepal, pressing him on why he didn't inform anyone
his wife was missing on August 1,
two, three, four of 2024.
He filed a missing persons report on the 5th. Here's some of what
was played. But blurred out in that video tells
the independent journalist he got serious after
the police visit on August 2nd
and basically argues that he did everything police told him
to do in reporting. The journalist asks him questions like
with his military experience,
why he didn't ask neighbors for CCTV footage.
Why would Mamta leave if the defendant
is saying they didn't have any arguments since April?
At one point, Bhatt raises that Mamta was in her postpartum phase
and thought she may have gone to her friends like she did before.
He also tells the journalist he tried calling Mamta's phone.
Now, we're definitely going to get into more of that in court.
The prosecution today already started getting
into the trove of cell phone data
and data connected to the defendant's Tesla.
We also saw new evidence photos and some of the
tiniest brownish-red stains found on the windowsill
in the couple's bathroom. The former
county forensics investigator told the court,
based on her experience, she believed that was
blood and both photographed
and swabbed these small stains for evidence. We also saw photos
introduced today of zip ties found in the home,
photos of cleaning products found all throughout
the home. And guys, a photo of a wallet
that had three credit cards inside with
Mamta's name on them. None
of those credit cards had expired at the time. Guys.
