Two men are dead and a third injured after an overnight shooting in Mesquite.
Investigators say guns were drawn during an argument over a child's haircut.
Police responded just after midnight to Amber Springs Drive.
This is in a neighborhood north of I-20 near the Mesquite Airport.
As Fox Four's Vanya Castillo reports, police are still trying
to get answers about the family disturbance and whether anyone else was involved.
Two teenagers are dead after a family fight in Mesquite led to handguns being drawn.
The reason police are giving for the altercation is a haircut.
It was so loud, it just like scared me, so I froze.
By the time Mesquite police arrived at Amber Springs Drive,
two 18-year-olds were lying in the street, shot.
Police tell us shots were fired during a fight between family members.
It all started with an argument over a firstborn,
right, a one-year-old child's first haircut.
The initial altercation or argument was apparently over a haircut,
and that somehow escalated into an altercation where guns were drawn.
Police say there were multiple people involved, including siblings, in-laws,
close family friends, and a godparent. Shots were fired just before midnight.
Desiree Wilson was just getting ready for bed when she heard the shots.
I closed my eyes, and then we just heard loud bangs. I don't know.
I couldn't figure out if it was somebody banging on our doors,
somebody shooting at our house. Both 18-year-olds died at the hospital.
Later, a 20-year-old man showed up to an emergency room with gunshot wounds.
His injuries are not life-threatening. It's early in the investigation.
What I can tell you is, with our investigation, we will determine.
Who fired? Who discharged the firearm during this incident,
and if charges need to come?
As a result of the actions of any of these individuals,
then charges will be filed and arrests will be made.
Police say the two who died were close but not blood related.
Their names have not been released yet.
Wilson, who has lived in this neighborhood for 20 years,
is still trying to process what happened just outside of her home.
It's just, it's senseless. It doesn't make any sense. Makes me just sad,
really, really sad because you know this is such a quiet neighborhood.
We don't have these type of issues, and it just it makes me scared.
Now, police tell us that multiple handguns were recovered.
