Multiple Sixers injury updates to get to
as we close in on the last of the preseason games.
We have the regular season right around the corner.
We got to know what's going on
with two of our key bench pieces
and the remaining question marks
that will come from whether or not
they are going to be active
both in the pre or regular season.
What's going on, everybody?
Christian Pedersen back with another episode
of Sixers Digest,
the show that's got to give you an update
on my boy, Adem Bona,
aka the missing link, the big piece,
the guy who's actually going to hold all of this
stuff together. I say that somewhat sarcastically, but you know
on this show, we are Adem Bonists
number one internet fan cast. As always, if you want to
like, subscribe, comment, share, follow, all those other
YouTube buttons, Sean and I got daily
content for you all season
long, no matter how good, bad, or
anything it goes in between.
The headlines being that
we are running out of time in the
preseason, and I'm not entirely
sure as to the necessity
of the preseason, but
the good news here
is that progress is being made as of today both Simons
and Bona are being announced as
partial participants in the last training camp session
but that doesn't update the timeline
on returns as of us recording it right now
the timeline is four days between now and the rematch
of the century as we take on the Sixers once again
for the final pre-season game of the season
a total of eight days between now
and us taking on the Knicks to start the season off now reminder
before we go any further we got to say thank you
as always to Kalshi for sponsoring this video
remind you that we are the third favorite team
in their markets to be the NBA champion and if you
want to sign up you can use the code DIGEST NBA
when you are signing up and Kalshi will hook you
up with 25 or with 55 dollars
when you trade your first 25 dollars in options um Simmons let's talk
about Anthony and him being ruled out in advance
because of his hamstring talked about how he
hasn't been discussed being severe enough to have him
be an issue in terms of missing regular season
games the same seems to kind of go for the Adem Bona issue
of him being talked about how um he
and Simmons both a bunch of existing experience
and how they don't you know is it going to be
an issue, isn't it going to be an issue
who's really going to have an impact because it seems
like with uh with Simon, with Anthony Simmons it
was just he's guaranteed to be a bucket and he's
he's got a guy he's not there's no competition
for him in terms of is he going to make the team
or not there's no competition for him in terms
of is he going to get some playing time in the
rotation he's not in the running to like unseat anybody
in the starting lineup but it seems kind
of guaranteed that he was part of and will be part
of Nick Nurse's plan for the season, the same
with Adem Bona he wasn't or isn't in the running to unseat Joel
Embiid as the starting center
despite some of you guys thinking
that he shouldn't even be in the NBA you know i got his
back on that conversation but it's a question
of do they need to play in the preseason and if they
do not play in the preseason
but it gives them enough time between now and the regular season
to get you know healthy not that anyone's ever
at a hundred percent health but if it gives them
enough time to get healthy in the preseason i think kind
of we're looking at right now like
what is the general i don't even know if it's you want
to say learning curve but what amount of time
do these guys then get in the regular season to get up to speed Joel
Embiid is going to play
obviously the starting center on game one against
the New York Knicks in MSG like this is not
a demo bonus game to steal
but demo bonus i would hope is available for some degree of time we saw
and we have seen what it looks like with a variety
of different cats at center this preseason and it
isn't like it isn't the end of the world
but we don't have a we don't have a backups backups back
there is no fourth string center currently available
and i doubt that they're going to
give Ryan Repaired a starting job
on this team he's probably going to be one of the two-way
contracts and probably not going to be somebody
that they're going to spend one of those two-way
slots early in the season in terms of the total number
of games available for him to come in and
back up and bead and then be like his number two off the bench
so Bona coming off of a foot sprain
And I guess I would place the importance at him getting out there
for the last of the preseason games at like a 2 out of 10.
I don't think that there's a ton of rotational coordination
and whatnot that is needed for Adem Bona
to like fit into the offensive end of this scheme.
Obviously, there is some desire to you know get everybody on the same page
and not have him playing his first meaningful basketball minutes
of the season in the regular season
but i don't think that he is somebody that is gonna throw
the whole thing out of whack if he's you know
not a viable offensive option those first couple of
games he needs to be defense defense defense
rebounding defense Anthony Simons I would say
let's crank that up to a I would place the importance
of him getting at least some preseason
time at like a 7 out of 10 I will
be curious what Nick Nurse's overall game plan is number two
against the Celtics I would assume
that the starters will get some degree of minutes out
there just to get some last little looks
but does sort of seem like the vision is much bigger and
broader for this team so the risk of re-aggravating
or injuring something just arbitrarily to get
Anthony Simons out there in the preseason
so that he can get a little bit of the rust off and get
some looks with Justin Edwards and LeBaron Finlan
and Dean Wade and KCP on the court in a meaningless
game like i'm not trying to risk another two-week setback
or whatever re-aggravating that hammy but
at the same time i would say that Anthony Simons is somebody
who is going to be part of that like
first wave off the bench whether it is going straight to him
or to Dean Wade or KCP maybe
it rotates from game to game i think
though that it will be something where Anthony Simons is going
to be out there on the court with a ton
of different looks ranging from starter heavy to
bench heavy and everything kind of in between
so to get any amount of that gelling going is
you know it can't be understated with his importance
in terms of the fluidity of this team
and and getting him some of that so that's where i'm kind
of sitting at it i'd say it may be like
i would place it at a six out of ten in terms
of my need to see Anthony out there for the preseason
two out of ten for my need to see Bona out there
in the preseason the only questions i have lingering
about Bona is just if if he is if there
is a longer term of his foot just not getting healthy
then the Sixers like have a real true issue like
a structural fundamental roster composition issue
that needs to be addressed if it's just uh
is he going to play now versus the you know if he's
going to play the 16th versus
the 20th just give him give him give him to me on the 20th for 10
minutes and then let's you know hell
or high water on in terms of his offensive numbers that's what
i got for you today let me know what you think
