Ukrainian army recorded new successes in Donbas and Zaporizhia; occupiers' offensive attempts failed

In recent days, the Ukrainian Defense Forces have disrupted Russian troop advances on several fronts and improved their positions in the Donetsk and Zaporizhzhia regions, according to a new report from the Institute for the Study of War. In the Velykyi Burluk area, the occupiers continued their offensive, but on October 6, the Ukrainian Armed Forces launched counterattacks, after which ISW found no evidence of Russian advancement.
On October 5 and 6, Russian units attacked from several directions in the Liman sector, but were also unable to make any significant advances. Meanwhile, Ukrainian forces continue operations north and northeast of Liman as part of Operation Vivaldi. ISW also notes reports from Russian sources about problems with the Western Group of Russian Forces. One Russian war correspondent claims that at least 8,000 troops have left their area of responsibility, and over the past six months, the group has allegedly lost over 1,000 troops weekly due to Ukrainian counterattacks. According to Russian sources, the Ukrainian Armed Forces are expanding their counterattack zone in the Konstantinovka sector, including in the Rusiny Yar area. At the same time, Russian forces continue to attack east of Kramatorsk and in the Tikhonovka area, but there has been no confirmed advancement there. Russian sources also reported attempts by the Ukrainian Armed Forces to advance toward Rai-Aleksandrivka, but available geolocation data indicates that Ukrainian control over the town remains intact. In the western part of the Zaporizhia region, Ukrainian forces maintain their positions, despite claims by Russian military bloggers. Geolocation footage confirms the presence of Ukrainian Armed Forces southeast of Novoselivka and in the northern part of Novoandriivka, west and southwest of Orekhovo, respectively. However, claims by Russian sources of complete control over Novoandriivka are inconsistent with available visual data, ISW notes.
The Russian occupation army has advanced near the town of Belitskoye in the Pokrovsky district of Donetsk Oblast, according to a map from the Ukrainian analytical project DeepState. According to DeepState, Russian occupiers have made minor advances in the Belitske area. Fighting continues there. According to a map from a Ukrainian analytical project affiliated with the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine, almost all of Belitske is located in the so-called "gray zone," meaning neither side fully controls it.
