Today, two key innovations determine the course of war more than anything else. Ukrainian Starlink satellite terminals relay video feeds from drones, allowing them to engage moving targets at extremely long ranges, The Times reports .

The publication reported that access to satellite communications also provides Ukrainian troops with secure internet communications and reconnaissance imagery in near real time.

"This is truly a fundamental change in the situation, allowing us to begin cutting off Russian logistics routes deep in the rear. And this directly impacts the course of the fighting, as the Russians are facing problems supplying ammunition, personnel, ammunition, and fuel to the front lines," a Ukrainian soldier with the call sign "Curly Mustache" told the publication. However, the publication notes, Russia has inexpensive drones with Chinese-made turbojet engines, allowing it to bomb Ukraine's major cities in waves around the clock. Currently, only expensive Western interceptor missiles, which are in short supply, are capable of shooting them down.

The article notes that both sides are trying to turn the enemy's advantage to their advantage.

On the one hand, Ukraine is forcing Russian troops to retreat along the front lines. At the same time, the Kremlin is striking Ukrainian cities with an intensity not seen since the first year of the war.

The publication suggests that Russia is thus trying to leave Ukrainians facing winter, when temperatures drop below freezing, without electricity, heating, or basic sanitation.

The article describes how Ukrainian drone operators are attacking Russian military logistics routes deep behind the front lines, with the ultimate goal of cutting Crimea off from Russia entirely.

"This is the road leading to the city of Donetsk. I hope there's something interesting here, like a large truck. It used to be very busy here, but since we started working, the road has been almost empty," said a Ukrainian soldier piloting a drone he'd just launched toward the enemy.

The publication reported that the highways are so deserted that some pilots are being redirected to strike Russian command posts discovered during preliminary reconnaissance and identified using external antennas.

One of the drones loses signal while still over Ukrainian territory. The article suggests it may have been shot down by "friendly" forces. Another suffers engine failure and crashes shortly after takeoff. However, subsequent Ukrainian drones hit their targets one after another. "Russian trucks, fortifications, and troop deployment points are being hit one after another," the article notes.

The publication noted that the pace of operations is frantic. Fueled by energy drinks and a deep hatred for the enemy, Ukrainian drone operators have completed 200 missions in the past 20 days.

For Kaijo, one of a growing number of women volunteering to become pilots, the struggle is personal.

"I have three nieces and nephews, as well as three godchildren. I decided that I wanted them to live in a country where they could choose their own path and opportunities, as well as the language they spoke," the servicewoman said.
