The Russian state news agency RIA Novosti published an article naming Lithuania as a possible target for a new Russian military operation. The author, RuBaltic.ru editor-in-chief Alexander Nosovich, asserts that Russia could dispense with ground troops and use nuclear-armed missiles. The article, titled "Russia Awaits Another Strategic Military War. It Will Be Very Short," appeared after the Lithuanian parliament's decision to lift the ban on nuclear weapons deployment. In the article, Nosovich compared Lithuania to Ukraine and asserted that, in the event of a conflict, Russia is capable of striking with lightning speed and achieving its goals in a very short period of time. The article was published amid reports from Danish and Czech intelligence agencies about a possible limited Russian attack on a NATO country in the coming months. Previously, Western media also reported that Moscow may attempt to test the Alliance's readiness to defend the Baltic states. The publication claims that in the event of a direct conflict with Russia, the Kaliningrad region could be blockaded, and its military infrastructure could become a target for attacks. Against this backdrop, in September, Polish Foreign Minister Sikorski declared NATO's significant military superiority over Russia. In response , Nikolai Patrushev and then Sergei Lavrov threatened Warsaw with swift defeat in the event of war.
Russian dictator Putin's aide, Nikolai Patrushev, threatened Poland with the use of "the entire arsenal" of Russian forces and resources if Warsaw enters into a direct military conflict with Moscow. According to him, in such a case, Polish statehood could allegedly cease to exist within days. Patrushev stated this in an interview with Russian propaganda media, commenting on recent remarks by Polish Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski about the military capabilities of European countries. "If Poland enters into military action against Russia, our country will use the entire arsenal of forces and means at its disposal, and Polish statehood will cease to exist within two or three days ," the Russian official stated. Sergey Lavrov threatened Europe with a "completely different" and "very short" war if European countries decide to attack Russia. "I hope that this warning is heard in European capitals and in those structures that are now trying to pass themselves off as a united Europe. We've said repeatedly that we have no intention of attacking Europe; we have no interest in doing so. But if Europe, which talks daily about preparing for war against Russia, attacks the Russian Federation, it will be a completely different war, and it will be very short," Lavrov said.
