Le Monde reports that France is already conducting military operations against Russia without publicly announcing them. An anonymous source in the French Ministry of Defense told the publication this. Asked whether Paris could give a military response to Moscow privately, the source replied: "This is already happening."
Under international law, this does not constitute France's entry into war with Russia, but rather the initiation of unacknowledged hybrid attacks in response to Moscow's actions. Nevertheless, this extremely rare admission carries particular weight, as it sheds light for the first time on a NATO country's military operations against Russia. It is unclear from the source where exactly such operations are taking place: inside Russia, on the front lines in Ukraine, in cyberspace, against Russian networks of influence, or as part of countering sabotage in Europe. It is likely that we are talking about retaliatory hybrid attacks deep in Russia's rear. But the very fact that a French defense source is talking about an ongoing response to Moscow shows that Paris has moved from threats to action. At the same time, French President Emmanuel Macron gathered presidential candidates and party leaders at the Élysée Palace for a closed-door meeting to brief them on the Russian hybrid threat. According to Le Monde, the meeting participants were told of the growth of Russia's shadowy operations across Europe: from cyberattacks and disinformation to sabotage and pressure on critical infrastructure. It's especially telling that Macron's words even impressed far-right politicians Marine Le Pen and Jordan Bardella. Previously, their political force was often criticized for its softness toward Moscow, but now they, too, are making tough statements against Russia. Le Pen and Bardella called the transfer of Auchan's Russian business to external management a hostile act against France. They stated that Moscow cannot dictate Paris's policy through threats, destabilization, or pressure on French companies.
Earlier, Polish Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski stated that in the event of a direct attack by the Russian Federation, Poland and its allies would have a significant military advantage and would be able to quickly inflict a serious defeat on Russia. He made this statement at the YES conference in Kyiv. "If Russia attacked us and we acted without restrictions, I think we would overcome them quite quickly. We have an extraordinary advantage over Russia in air power. We're talking, I think, about two and a half thousand aircraft ," Sikorsky said. According to him, this advantage would have been maintained even without direct US involvement. The minister also noted the allies' ability to launch long-range strikes against Russian territory using JASSM missiles and other weapons. Sikorsky cited the example of Ukrainian attacks on Russian oil refineries. "If the Ukrainians took out half of Russia's oil refining capacity in six months, we could do the same in six weeks and destroy the rest ," the Polish minister said.
