Commuters in Saskatoon say this is one of the most frustrating construction seasons yet.
Multiple projects means closed lanes and traffic redirections,
and this is one of the areas hit the hardest.
But the City of Saskatoon announced late Friday that University Bridge
and College Drive are now back open for vehicle traffic.
It's good news for people who have been impacted by delays caused by construction.
My dad has been very sick so I'm finding that like trying to take him back and forth to the
hospital has been pretty difficult just trying to get him here in a proper amount of time.
The city replaced one of the bridge's concrete arches and is building bus-only
lanes on College Drive, which already caused backups for people trying to access the area
this summer. But with university classes back in session this week, students say they were
already noticing how much longer it's taking to make it to class on time.
Just coming down College and Preston being closed and 8th Street being closed, it's like
yeah definitely tricky to get to work and school on time in the mornings.
But some say although it's frustrating, the construction work needed to be done
to make things more accessible long term.
They've got students here, they have the hospital here,
it needed to be done and unfortunately it's taken a little longer than expected.
The city says there are currently two lanes of traffic, one in each direction, on College Drive
from the bridge to Hospital Drive, and the exit from the bridge to Saskatchewan Crescent will
remain closed. Construction also continues on other roads in the area, with work expected
to wrap up in the coming days. Helena Mihalik, CBC News, Saskatoon.
