Following this developing story where
the Metropolitan Police Department now assisting
the Secret Service following a report
of a suspicious package that's taking place in
the 3000 block of M Street in Northwest.
Bob Barnard now joining us with the latest. Bob,
what can you tell us? Yeah,
there's a mess down here in Georgetown in terms of people trying to
get places, cars, pedestrians. This is right here.
You've got U.S. Secret Service. I know you're kind
looking into the sun here. But this is 33rd Street at Prospect Street.
And just beyond us is M Street.
And just around the corner there is the Ukrainian embassy.
So the word we have, guys, is that there
is a suspicious package that was discovered like at 845 this morning.
And as a result, you've got
the Key Bridge in both directions.
And much of, I don't know if you can see way down there.
I mean, traffic, M Street, as you're approaching the heart
of Georgetown, Wisconsin Avenue are just a mess.
And people can't get to their homes, their businesses.
This is just one of the streets,
and you can see people are just waiting this thing out.
And down there along M Street,
I'm going to walk up this as far as I can here.
M Street is where the police activity is.
And it's, again, supposedly a suspicious package near
the Ukrainian embassy, which is on M Street, right,
basically a block or so from the entrance to the Key Bridge.
And so right now everything is closed down here.
You see some people there,
but this police line is not letting us go any further.
And, again, you've got, you know, Secret Service police,
the next street down, D.C. police, MPD is blocking off entrances.
And you can see there's, again, this is off my phone,
so I don't know how clearly you see it.
But there's even police tape there.
So kind of on the south side of M Street,
you can't get down to the waterfront right now.
Or if you're there, you can't get out.
So it's a big mess.
This thing will likely be resolved and turns out to be nothing.
But the chance that there could be something sinister
with this suspicious package that's
been found down right near the Ukrainian embassy
has caused this kind of big snarl of pedestrian
and vehicle traffic here,
basically in the heart of Georgetown, Guy.
And yet again, at this moment, the investigation is ongoing.
Bob Barnard reporting out of Georgetown, right here on the Live Zone.
Truly appreciate you, Bob.
