Canada's women's rugby squad defeats reigning world champions on home soil
Oct 24, 2026
A crowd of over 13,000 fans on their feet, decked out in red and white,
celebrating the moment Team Canada's
women's rugby defeated Team England, 31-22.
That was the coolest thing I've ever seen.
That was so cool. I feel great.
I'm so excited. That was so fun.
So exciting to see them win against such
an amazing country. It's so exciting.
I don't think we ever had a big crowd like
this playing. I don't think so.
so it's a big thing, and it's a big thing to have this at home.
The team got the job done in front of the second-largest crowd ever
at a North American rugby match.
Fans flew in from Edmonton, drove from Halifax,
all to witness both powerhouse teams go head-to-head.
England is ranked number one in the world
and are the reigning world champions, while Canada is third.
Yet, Canada also beat them last week in Toronto,
breaking England's 41-game streak of being unbeaten.
It also marked the first time England has
lost two consecutive matches since 2016.
Fans walking out of the stadium,
signs and Canadian flags in hand, feeling inspired.
It shows that women are very, very strong,
just as strong as football players,
and it's very inspiring.
It's like you never know if that could be me one day, hopefully.
I just think it's
so important that these young girls get to see these women play.
You know, representation really matters.
We're proud of them in general and want them to have this recognition.
It's just an amazing time to be here,
to be a rugby fan, to be like a women's sports fan.
It is growing, it's amazing.
