Ukraine unveils Ratel R1 reconnaissance drone built to operate 30 km deep in hostile territory

Ukraine’s defense technology company Ratel Robotics has unveiled the Ratel R1, a new reconnaissance copter designed for aerial intelligence, surveillance and target adjustment. Video footage shared in social media shows the copter being tested.
The company says the unmanned aircraft can operate at a maximum range of up to 30 kilo-meters, reach speeds of 75 km/h and remain airborne for as long as 45 minutes. Its maxi-mum takeoff weight is listed at 18 kilograms. For reconnaissance missions, the Ratel R1 is equipped with a stabilized ViewPro A40 Pro camera featuring optical zoom. An addi-tional camera allows operators to transmit video and monitor targets from considerably greater distances. The drone's communications and data-transfer system relies on satellite connectivity through Starlink Mini, while navigation is handled by a CUAV 3 Pro GPS module. According to Ratel Robotics, the combination is intended to maintain a reliable communications link even in challenging electronic warfare environments, where conven-tional radio connections can be disrupted or jammed. The Ratel R1 is part of the company's broader effort to develop unmanned aerial and ground-based robotic systems for Ukraine's defense forces.
