Palheiro House by Pedro Henrique Arquiteto is a contemporary coastal home in Esmoriz, Portugal, inspired by the traditional fisherman’s dwellings known as “Palheiros.” Completed in 2022, the 1,722-square-foot house combines a solid concrete volume with rhythmic timber elements, a pitched roof, and elevated terraces that reference the local coastal landscape. Large sliding openings, shutters, and timber screens create a fluid connection between the interior and exterior while controlling light and privacy. The result is a compact modern home that reinterprets local architectural heritage through simple forms, durable materials, and a strong relationship with its surroundings.
