AI GeneratedThe Detroit Red Wings are currently conducting a search for a new general manager to replace Steve Yzerman. Owner Chris Ilitch has hired a search firm to find an analytically driven leader, with reports suggesting the team is open to various organizational structures, including a split between a President and a GM.
The Red Wings GM search continues to rage on as Chris Illich continues to look for his next
general manager but an NHL insider has just dropped a bombshell new report revealing some
very interesting key details going into the search process and who will be the next general manager
of the Detroit Red Wings. We're going to break down all of these new reports, who's going to be
the next GM, some candidates that have been named that will surprise Red Wings fans and much more
in this episode of Red Wings Digest. But before we jump into all of that guys,
a quick reminder to hit that subscribe button. You'll notice that about 85% of you guys who

GM search with all the Dylan Larkin trade rumors as well, make sure to hit that subscribe button.
We're almost at our goal of 5,000 subscribers. Thank you so much for tuning in every single day.
And we read the comments. We appreciate all the discourse that's going on down there below
because people are passionate. They want the Red Wings to make the right move. And you can see
this from Helene St. James. Again, a person within the NHL, so an NHL source has told the free press
that Chris Illich hired a search firm. And we kind of knew this, but I want to get into some
interesting details and a new report from Elliott Friedman as well in this video, but, uh, to help
determine who should replace Steve Iserman as the general manager of the Detroit Red Wings.
Now it's believed that he is looking for someone to be analytically driven, which is a good thing.
I think that's good news for Red Wings fans. And we covered that a couple of days ago
in terms of what the search would look like now from Elliott Friedman, a couple new reports.
So buckle up here. There's been a lot of names out there, a person with a little bit of a different
background, Jeff Greenberg, who, for those of you Detroit sports fans out there know him as the
in the MLB, which is interesting. So it sounds like they're not married to the fact of just
hiring, you know, the old school club or anything like that. A guy who's been around for a while.
No, they want someone who's analytically driven and somebody who's going to be able to take this
team to the next level, which again, in a vacuum, great news for Red Wings fans. I think that's a
great thing. This is something that, you know, the league is going that way. These are all good
things. Now Elliott Friedman had another report that the Red Wings have indicated that they're
open-minded about whether it's one person or two. So again, we've been talking about this throughout
the summer. Could it be just the GM? Is it going to be a president and GM one role or one person,
I should say, or is it going to be president and GM? And we've been talking about, you know,
Jim Rutherford, maybe he is the president and then you hire a GM under him who's younger,
more analytically driven, and that could make some sense. So it sounds like the Red Wings are
open to that and they're trying to figure out that process. Where have you heard this before?
Well, if you're paying attention to, you know, since the regular season ended news around the
league, the Toronto Maple Leafs just finished doing the same thing. So a lot of teams are doing
this and going this route. It's not uncommon. Now, what the person's background is not necessarily
be quote unquote a hockey person as we've come to define them. So again, they're thinking outside
the box. They could hire somebody that we've never heard of before. Now, in terms of different
candidates that's been named, you could look at Scott White in Dallas. You could look at Evan
Gold, who I brought up a couple of times, who was just hired and they missed out on him by the New
York Islanders. But somebody of that ilk could end up being the general manager, but then maybe
somebody else is the president, or maybe it's a completely different structure entirely where
it's one person that isn't a hockey person that comes in. I don't know how I feel about that
because I still think there's a human aspect to making decisions in the NHL. I don't think
everything is numbers, but a lot of it is looking at the numbers and being able to make decisions
based off those as well. So Elliot Friedman went on to say, I do believe you're going to see the
initial beginning interview process begin probably next week. And this new report just came out,
or this one specifically came out a couple of days ago. So I would imagine start of next week
interviews are beginning. Now, what does that mean? This is not moving fast enough. That's what
that means. And I've been talking about this on the channel for days at this point. This simply
is not moving fast enough. At this rate, if interviews are beginning, you're going to have
to go through probably second interviews, maybe in-person interviews, because a lot of these
interviews might be over zoom, right? They could be, you know, uh, digital interviews. They could
be virtual interviews. That was the word I was looking for, but you know, it could be a lot of
that. So you're going through an entire process here. It seems to me like the GM might be in
place by September. Ladies and gentlemen, the season starts in September. This year does not
start, you know, two weeks into October anymore. The regular season, they're going to be playing
preseason games two weeks into September. So it sounds to me, they're going to have a two
week window to sign Simon Edmondson and to trade Dylan Larkin. We don't even know if Dylan Larkin
is going to be trading yet, but that's a whole other bag of worms. And we talked about that
ad nauseum and other videos as well. So that is that now from NHL rumor report among the names
were rumored previously to be the general manager, Sean Horcough, who is currently in charge and
That would be interesting to me if they go through the whole process and then they end up
landing on him and you wasted a bunch of time because he is overseeing it right now.
That one's interesting to me. Chris Draper have a field day in the comments. Let me know how you
feel about that one. And Scott White, I've talked about him on the channel a lot of, of course,
the Dallas stars. I think that'd be a good pick. That might be the pick that's left. If you're
talking about combining an analytically driven person with being a hockey person, Scott White,
in terms of everyone who's left, that could be a good option. That's relatively young.
That makes sense to me, a guy who could build this back up a little bit and has built up,
you know, the Dallas stars to a point where they are in the mix every single season. Now,
a couple other reports to get to the red wings are using the firm. I don't even know how to
pronounce that, but to run the GM search, the firm is run by Len Perna, who used to work for
sports. So this is the other thing that a lot of red wings fans are fired up about,
um, that I wanted to bring up and let me know how you feel in the comments below.
The firm that has been hired is not necessarily a firm that has nothing to do with the red wings or,
you know, like a, like a third party or they're technically a third party, but
they do have a connection to the Illich family. Right. So that's pretty interesting. I was
wondering if they were going to go way outside the box and they haven't done that. And I've
seen a lot of discourse about this online that people are not necessarily happy about this
because while it is technically, you know, outside, they're not doing the search themselves,
the organization that is, there is a connection to the Illich family. So thought that was pretty
interesting as well. And you can see this from, uh, the, you know, the grindline podcast.
So the founder of the group, the wings are using for the GM search Z R G is the former
executive director, general sales manager for Illich sports and entertainment. So there is
still very much a connection there. Again, let me know how you feel in the comments below. I've seen
either nothing. Uh, you know, some, some outlets are very quiet about it. Some people are not
happy about it out there in social media. Let me know how you feel about that. To me,
it's interesting because there is that connection there. I would have liked,
um, you know, if you're going to go this search firm routes, which other teams have done recently,
maybe nobody with connection to the team. I don't know. It's interesting. Let me know how
you feel about that. Last thing I'll mention in this episode is the hockey town wordmark
and center ice logo is back for next season. So that has fans pretty fired up as well.
You can see that that is what the center ice logo will look like. I know it's upside down.
Uh, they just finished the, uh, that was a picture from Twitter. I know they just finished it a
couple of days ago. This is the red wings, 20, 26, 20, 27 center ice design. And again, a lot
of fans, let me know how you feel in the comments below are really happy about this returning.
And like fans have pointed out slowly, but surely the more that they bring back from the Joe,
the better the team gets, which I think is pretty funny. A lot of people have been outlining that
on social media that, you know, you bring back an actual goal horn and a few other things from
the Joe. And then now you're bringing back the center ice logo. You're creeping closer and
closer to the playoffs, but obviously have not made the playoffs. And while that is fun to make
jokes about, that is not exactly why they haven't made the playoffs is because they're abysmal
five-on-five and the roster is not that good yet. And speaking of roster, you need to get a general
manager in place so he can finalize this roster and make the necessary signings that they still
need to do in Simon Evanston. And of course, figure out what they're going to do with Dylan
Larkin, ladies and gentlemen, let me know how you feel in the comments below. And we'll see
you for another video tomorrow.
