A few days ago, a satellite passing over the Indian Ocean caught a first: a small boat pressed up against the hull of a spacecraft, and a long towline running out across the water to a Norwegian tug.
That's it. That's the picture. And it quietly ends a debate that's been raging across the internet for a week — because SpaceX just pulled off something without precedent in the history of spaceflight. They rigged an orbital-class rocket for tow, in the open ocean, and started dragging it home.
Let me put that in perspective. NASA used to recover things from the sea all the time — but always by design. Apollo capsules came down under parachutes with a carrier waiting. The Shuttle's solid rocket boosters splashed down and were collected by two purpose-built ships, Freedom Star and Liberty Star, with crews who did it after every single launch. Planned, rehearsed, routine.

Nobody has ever taken a vehicle that was supposed to sink — no keel, no naval architecture of any kind — and rigged it at sea with whatever they could load onto a workboat out of an iron ore port. Until now.
Satellite imagery has now confirmed the configuration: they're towing it backwards. Engines first, nose trailing behind. And once you see where they tied the rope, it's beautiful.
Look at the skirt at the bottom of Ship 40. Spaced around it are six attachment interfaces — the points where Super Heavy's clamps grip the ship during launch. They carry a spacecraft through the most violent ride humans have ever engineered, which makes them the strongest fittings on the vehicle. That's where the rigging appears to be secured.
