Starship to TakeOver Dragon Interior, even TOILET...
SpaceX Dragon Interior is So Advanced, even TOILET - Starship TakeOver!
What SpaceX Did with Crew Dragon Is Now Shaping Starship
Just recently, SpaceX launched Crew-13, sending four astronauts aboard Crew Dragon Grace to the International Space Station. It marked SpaceX's 13th NASA-contracted operational crew mission and its 21st crewed spaceflight in just six years since 2020.
For SpaceX, it was another crewed mission. But behind that routine milestone is something much bigger: SpaceX has now spent years learning what it takes to operate spacecraft with people onboard.
And now, that experience is becoming increasingly important for a completely different vehicle: Starship HLS.
So, what has SpaceX learned from Crew Dragon that could now shape Starship HLS?
At first glance, Dragon and Starship HLS could hardly be more different. Crew Dragon operates around Earth, launching on Falcon 9, docking with the ISS, supporting its crew, and returning by parachute to the ocean.
HLS, by contrast, has to travel to lunar orbit, rendezvous and dock, land on the Moon, support astronauts on the surface, and then launch back into space. It must also handle challenges Dragon never faced, including lunar dust, EVA, lunar gravity, and much more complex mission operations.
But beneath all those differences is the same fundamental question: how do you build a spacecraft that not only survives in space, but allows humans to live and work safely inside it?
Crew Dragon is not a blueprint for HLS. But years of flying astronauts on Dragon have given SpaceX valuable experience that could now shape how it approaches the much bigger challenge of turning Starship into a true human spacecraft.
