What SpaceX MUST do after Flight 14 to get human back to the Moon!!!
First orbit!
Starlink V3 is officially in service!
Two controlled splashdowns!
Starship—the world's largest rocket—has achieved some of the biggest milestones in its entire test program during Flight 14.
But all of that is still just the beginning compared with SpaceX's ultimate goal: putting humans back on the Moon.
So, what does SpaceX must do with Starship after Flight 14 to finally return humans to the Moon?
Let's find out!
Perhaps the most important thing SpaceX now has to deal with is what happened during Flight 14 itself.
What SpaceX MUST do after Flight 14 to get human back to the Moon!!!
The biggest challenge is reliability. Ship 41 and Booster 21 both experienced engine-related problems during the mission, showing that Raptor 3 still has areas that need further refinement. That includes engine shutdowns, relights, propellant flow, and the systems responsible for keeping the engines operating reliably through multiple phases of a mission.
Think about it like operating a commercial airline. If an aircraft occasionally has an engine that refuses to restart, you might still complete individual flights. But now imagine trying to operate hundreds of flights to support a lunar campaign, with some of those flights carrying propellant that another Starship absolutely depends on. Suddenly, a small reliability problem can propagate through the entire architecture. One failed tanker flight could delay another mission. A problem with a booster could reduce launch cadence. And a problem during an orbital operation could potentially affect an entire lunar mission.
What SpaceX MUST do after Flight 14 to get human back to the Moon!!!
That is why SpaceX cannot simply make Starship powerful enough to reach orbit. It has to make the vehicle predictable. Every launch, every engine burn, every propellant transfer, and eventually every landing needs to become increasingly routine. This is one of the biggest differences between a successful test vehicle and a true transportation system.
And once SpaceX can make Starship reliable enough to fly repeatedly, the company faces the next major challenge: rapid reusability.
The entire economic logic behind Starship depends on flying the same hardware many times. Imagine trying to operate a commercial airline where every aircraft could fly only once before being taken apart and rebuilt. You could still operate the airline, but the economics and flight rate would be completely different. Starship faces the same problem. If SpaceX has to spend months inspecting and rebuilding every vehicle after each mission, the enormous payload capacity of Starship will not automatically translate into a high launch cadence.
