Canucks make multiple SNEAKY signings…
Jul 25, 2026
The Vancouver Canucks make multiple sneaky signings heading into day two of free agency
with one player standing out in particular which has major implications but not only that
we get a huge update on a Vancouver Canucks fan favorite and current UFA as the team still circles
back to try to find a contract. We're to break down everything on the multiple signings the
Vancouver Canucks made with one defenseman looking a lot better than people may expect
but not only that we're going to give you a huge update on Pew Suter and the Canucks
current situation with the UFA. We're going to break down all this and more later on the set
so before we get into that if you haven't hit that sub button yet it's completely free to hit
we have daily videos coming out on the Vancouver Canucks not only this offseason
but heading into the season so go down hit that free subscribe button it helps us out a bunch
and we'll keep you up to date on everything to do around the Canucks.
While that let's just hop straight into the first topic today where we're going to touch
on Pew Suter first. We've seen from Thomas Trent there's options down the middle with UFAs and
Rosalpick, Suter, Olsen a lot of these guys are waiting for Nick Ehlers to sign. I'm not hearing
the Canucks will circle back on Suter however at the current price point. Now we do have Rick Dolly
coming out immediately to say the Canucks called Suter's agent yesterday and told them they still
have interest. The door is still open but Vancouver needs to move money to sign Suter.
Suter can sign today or tomorrow. Now this coming from Rick we do understand the Vancouver Canucks
had made a lot of moves and that was bringing back key guides, extensions for Demko and Garland.
They brought back fan favorite in Brock Besser which thank god but I do expect the Canucks to
continuously push to bring Pew Suter back to this roster as they're looking for help down the middle.
Now with Pew Suter we do know the contract's going to cost quite a bit. Right now from Scotiabank
he is projected on a 3.5 million dollar deal on a four-year extension but with the center market
slowly getting drier with Mikkel Grandlin getting seven million on a three-year deal with Anheim
Ducks I do expect Pew Suter to be more in the four to four and a half million dollar range
in this open market unless he's looking at the band getting back together and wants to be the
domino in Vancouver. Now with Pew Suter we do understand that he is a Swiss army knife one of
the most productive five-on-five players for the Canucks this past season going out to score a
career high in 25 goals 46 points. I do believe Pew Suter is still a very very good third line
center that the Vancouver Canucks are going to continuously try to get. There could be a bidding
more and they may end up losing as they don't have a lot of cap space unless a move is made
but right now down the middle in Pedersen, Hedl, Bluger and Aturatu there is room for Pew Suter
to coming on that third line to play the wing or even in the top six on the wing. What are you
guys thoughts on this? What are your thoughts on the Canucks still making calls to Pew Suter? We're
seeing the band get back together this will be the final domino and there's a lot of excitement
around Vancouver the center position has to be addressed which we will be covering in a video
later tonight so keep you out for that as well. But what's your guys thoughts on Pew Suter? How
much would you give him and would you like to see him back on the Canucks because I do love Pews
and I would love to see him on this team. But with that let's just hop straight into the second topic
where we did see multiple signings. Now a lot of these guys are going to be Avestrid depth guards.
We've seen a couple guys not get qualified in Avestrid and they went out to make multiple
signings. We can see a defenseman, we can see a center and another lefty. There's a lot to like
with the Canucks making multiple depth signings mostly on one-year deals and two on a two but we
will touch on one defenseman in particular once we get through the handful of Avestrid players.
The first one Jimmy coming in as a left-hand defenseman played a bit of time with the Vegas
Golden Knights. He played with the San Jose Sharks with their organization. Eight games with the
Sharks the rest with the Barracudas. A shut down defenseman 6-0-1 203 pounds. This is most certainly
a depth signing. I don't expect him to make the jump into Vancouver unless everything goes off
the rails and with the Canucks luck. Who even knows at this point but they do continue on to
bring back a former Canuck actually funny enough that was with the team in 2016-17. Joseph Labate
joins the team after being drafted by him fourth round in 2011. Sorry having a blender today.
Going down to last play with the Columbus Blue Jackets he took a stint in the KHL.
Once again another depth piece for this Avestrid team and that's rounding it out straight into the
last player Mackenzie McEachern. With Mackenzie we've seen him with the Blues this feels like a
Sammy Blaze again coming in playing with the Blues putting up some respectable numbers 10 points
being their career high in 51 games playing the fourth line has some playoff experience with them
and the Carolina Hurricanes playing with the Blues once again two years with their AHL team.
We've seen the Canucks go out to get Sammy Blaze to join this organization.
With Sammy Blaze he did join the Montreal Canadiens. Sammy was a huge fan
and it sucks to see him go after we've seen reports that he was looking on a one-way contract
with the Canucks but I guess with all the moves they've made he did kind of lose his spot joining
the Montreal Canadiens but once again getting players that were with a winning organization
the Canucks have been a winning organization not so much last year but getting players that
have won with the St. Louis Blues that grew with the team joining this team like Sammy Blaze did
I think there's a bit of value in this guy he probably won't get a call-up but the Avestrid
Canucks are going to continuously roll it back and try to win the Calder Cup. We've seen them
win their first in franchise history on the backs of a lot of great players including Shelobs who
won the MVP but I do like that Patrick Albin is not dismissing this Calder group he is not looking
at the team making big signings and leaving them to dry he's getting options for them to continue
to grow but getting into the final player which we just seen break before I hit record on this
where we do see the Canucks get Pierre Joseph on a one-year contract at $775,000. Now with Joseph
I think there's a lot of value in this guy and I'm going to break down exactly what to expect
and what you're getting out of him. The first glance it feels like another Eric Brandstrom
a guy that comes in that is very good offensively had a few sins in the NHL but I don't know how
well he could play in a top four or a full-time top six without being put in the right position
but I do expect Adam Flush to have something up his sleeve and defensive depth is not bad to have
with Joseph the one-year deal he will be a UFA still only 26 years old 27 at the end of this
$775,000 fully bearable in the AHL. I do expect Joseph to join this Canucks team as maybe a seventh
defenseman or eighth defenseman depending on what they're doing with Tom Williner, Mancini, DPD,
Jet Wu, all these names that have played with Amsterd. Joseph stepping in there was a lot to
like about this player coming through he played with the Pittsburgh Penguins playing some time
with Chris Letang that team was a bit of a stinker so don't look at the plus minus too much we've
seen previous to that the St. Louis Blues we've seen the Penguins four years the career high of
21 points from a defenseman just in his third season a former top pick 23rd overall. I do expect
Joseph to show some value in this team he actually played with a Canucks star on top of that and I
don't know if I should call Tyler Myers star but listen I love Tyler Myers I'm sure everyone else
does well but what we see out being seen is he has good speed and mobility and will add to our depth
on the back end in addition guys give us a solid NHL pro experience he's comfortable playing both
sides so he can use them on the right side if you want to keep the junior PD and the rest in the
system and he won a world championship with Tyler Myers in 2023 he's going to join this group start
working with this group and I do expect Joseph to have a bit of value he's not going to go out
and score 50 points if he does I'll have his jersey direct behind me after doing it but I do
think there's value from a former first round pick that had scored 20 points played top minutes with
Chris Letang before I do think there's value here and I think it's a sneaky good ad that could show
value throughout the season we've seen the injuries the Canucks have dealt with this adds
more insurance to it what's your guys thoughts on all these signings I know there's a lot of guys
here what is your thoughts on the Pew Suter where the Canucks are supposedly calling back trying to
figure it out it's going to have to move money but I do like Suter and I think he fits this team
perfectly let me know all your thoughts down below while you're down there leave a like subscribe
share this with your friends hope you guys enjoy this and once again take care Canucks fans we'll
be back with another episode tonight so keep your heart for that but I've been your host Mark Pye and take care
