Hey, you talk about a celebration to Detroit's own R and B artist, Kim. He
just got a special honor from the city of Detroit. City officials. They held a
street special special street dedication ceremony yesterday to honor
his legacy and career. So this morning we got Kim right here in the studio.
What up now? How you doing, man? What up, though? Right. It's good to see
you. Good to be seen. Uh, walk me through just the feelings you went
through yesterday. Just standing at the corner that has pretty much changed
your life and career and then to have this come full circle. Overwhelming.
Um, humble, exciting. Um, special thanks to Mayor Sheffield and, uh,
Councilwoman Mary Waters for making it happen. The corner of Martin Luther
King Boulevard and third Avenue is where the Detroit rescue mission
resides. And in the early, um, nineties, late eighties, I was a
resident there, you know, crafting songs, uh, to my first album, you
know, in the in the in the sanctuary there, you know, so it's really,
really a full circle moment. Take me back. You remember the first song you
wrote there? Uh, and the first song that you, um, performed and maybe you
got to an album matter of time, matter of time off of my chemistry album, my
debut album and actually coined the phrase Mac and third, you know, in that
song. And, uh, yeah, truly, truly a full circle moment. You look, I feel
like wherever you go, Detroit always has a special place in your heart. It
doesn't matter where you where you're touring, where you live in. But you
always come back here in Detroit always shows you a good time. Uh, no matter
where you travel, what is that feeling when you come home and you see people
and they talk to you and you just you just kick it with them? There's there's
no place like home. And, uh, I represent the D everywhere I go, you
know, unapologetically. And, uh, there's there, you know, um, hard
workers, uh, work ethic, um, the pride that comes with the city. Um, you know,
I I'm a I'm a grateful and humble ambassador for the city. Look, I'm sure
there's somebody watching this. They may have a family member who's going
through some difficult life struggles of their own. If not, they're not
probably going through these same life struggles. Yeah. What advice do you hope
that your celebration and your story can provide for them? Absolutely. My my my
entire career is really based upon my testimony. You know, um, you know, I
share my experience, my struggles from the stage. Um, and and deliberately and
intentionally with the hope of of providing a window, a glimpse of a
brighter day to people who might be going through. And there's so many
organizations now, man, there's the Detroit rescue mission, of course,
which we mentioned of Salvation Army, the N. S. O. Covenant House. You know,
there's a there's there are places to get it done when you're ready. Yeah,
look, I was always told you can't have a testimony without being tested. Come
on now. You're a testament of that. Yeah. Can we appreciate you always
being an ambassador? Good to see you. Good to talk to you and much continued
success. I know you've had a legacy, but let's let that legacy continue to
shine. Thank you, Brian. Pleasure. No problem. Thank you. Well, thank you for
joining us. Good day. Detroit is coming up next. We hope you have a great rest
of the Friday.
