But we got a lot to talk about today in terms of Macklin Celebrini as it was a big announcement today. It was rumored a few days ago, but it became official today that the kid Macklin Celebrini is now the NHL 27 cover athlete and just doesn't it look beautiful? It's so great to see our boy Macklin Celebrini on the cover of an NHL game. The deluxe edition cover does look amazing as well and it's just such a prestigious honor for this guy to just two seasons in his career is now the face of the NHL franchise for this upcoming game and the face of the NHL. Him making the this year makes him the youngest person to ever get on the cover of a NHL video game, which is just an amazing feat. It seems like he's breaking all these youngest person ever dot dot dot records all over the place and it's just great to see Celebrini getting recognized around the league as the the next superstar. Well, he is a superstar now, but the next you know generation of superstars and you love to see it. The first shark to Don the cover of that video game since Owen Nolan back in 2001. So that's great to see as well. But Celebrini himself has been having an unbelievable year, maybe an all-time year for such a young kid. This guy he made Team Canada as a teenager and got silver medal. He led the Sharks to 34 points increase from the season before and nearly made the playoffs. He set the Sharks single season point record with 115. He was a Ted Lindsay finalist. He was fourth in the heart conversation and now is on the NHL 27 cover athlete. What else can happen for Macklin Celebrini before this next season starts? What a year this kid has had. It's just great to see him grow so much from that rookie season to where everybody calls it the sophomore slump, right? Like in your second year, you just people just famously don't do as well. That wasn't the case for Macklin Celebrini. He defied the odds and all expectations by coming out having a monster season leading the charge leading this team to success and really saying to management. Hey put some pieces around us so we can make this happen next season. And that's exactly what Mike Greer did by adding these veteran guys to help this team push for the playoffs this year, which I really do think they will get in at that third spot in their division. I do want to talk about Celebrini updating everybody about his contract situation and you know talks about taking a hometown discount. This is what he had to say. He said obviously guys want to get paid but you want to put your team in the best spot possible to make moves necessary to win. Sounds just like Sidney Crosby to me, doesn't it? I mean this guy's saying hey, you know, I know I can get 20 million dollars but that's not what's going to be good for the team and that's not good. That's not what's going to bring a Stanley Cup to the Bay Area. He knows he needs to take a pay cut so that they can lock up their younger guys. They can bring in some veteran guys to shape this team into a championship team. I definitely think the mold is there but the money just the wiggle room and the money needs to be there for this all to come together and he knows that and we've seen this with Sidney Crosby in his first deal. You think he took like 15 just over 15 percent of the cap which at that time was 8.7. Great because obviously his number is 87. So if we took that into account this season if he wanted to just follow in Crosby's footsteps take 15 percent of the cap that would put him in the 15 million dollar range annually. Between 15 and 17 which you know you're taking that for Celebrity all day long. I think maybe he will get a bridge deal here. Maybe he puts himself on a five-year deal so then at the end of that five years he can get what he's worth which would be the maximum contract in the league at that time which god only knows the way it's going right now that could be an enormous number. I really think Celebrity is leaning towards taking that cut and building this team and winning these championships before taking that big payday which is great to hear. It's just a great character move by Celebrity and the more I hear from this guy the more I just you know I'm so happy we have him on our team because we could be in a situation where we have a Leo Carlson who's taking 18 million dollars and I definitely think Celebrity could get that and he's definitely worth that in my mind but if he wants to take the the move the captain move and take a discount so we can build this team it would be great to see that as well but if we also lock him up eight years like 19 million I'm happy with that as well you know but it's just great to have a guy like this on your team. He did also go on to talk about some season expectations that he does have. I will bring it up a little bit bigger for you guys. He said I shouldn't be out of the question we've made the right moves and we have the right group to make a run and it's going to be my first playoff push which I'm really excited for. We had a little bit of it last year where we finished four points out but I think just this year we have some important pieces and that I'm excited to work with. Talking about bringing in some of these veteran guys like Darnell Nurse and Jacob Truba that he's excited to work with and he's really thinks that bringing those pieces in will really help this team and especially Mason Marchman is a guy I think he will be playing with at some times during the games whenever the lineups do get changed around and I'm excited for the season very excited you hear Celebrity I mean that kid's just turned 20 years old he's spewing out quotes like that I mean he's just pure leader I wouldn't be shocked if he starts the season with a C on his chest and I think it's just coming right like the next thing to make Celebrity's year of accomplishments keep going is to A sign the contract or B become the captain of the San Jose Sharks and I definitely think one of those things are coming in the near future for this kid no doubt about it. He did also go on to talk about this young core that we do have here in San Jose I will bring it up a little bit bigger for you guys because he did have a lot to say he said yeah exactly like Mesa, Dickinson, Stenberg, Smith who I've been with the last couple of years obviously the defensemen we drafted this year like Verhoef and Lin talking all about all of our prospects we have so much depth in our young guys so I think we are all excited to build together but I think it's important that we get those veteran guys as well kind of saying hey yeah we got a great draft we have a lot of great young talent that you know we're all excited to build this team together and to gain our experience with each other share our you know our woes and our our times of success with each other and that's only going to help us build our relationships uh you know within each other but also help the team as well and you know I love hearing this from Celebrity I think him saying hey yeah I know what we got but you also need to count take into account that we do need to bring veterans in to win a championship team we need those guys who have been in the you know in the dog fights of the Stanley Cup playoffs and the Stanley Cup finals to come in and tell us hey this is different than the regular season and he definitely knows that from obviously his experience with experiences playing with from those guys who've been there and won it so it's just great to hear that from Celebrity I'm very very excited uh for him this season I do think we will see another unbelievable season from this guy and you know it's just may as well give him the keys to the city already uh this guy you know he has San Jose in the palm of his hand and he also had another quote uh in this uh interview where he talked about you know I want the Bay Area to enjoy a hockey again and to have fun going to hockey games again uh and I mean this kid just loves it he lives and breathes the game and he wants to win he wants a championship and I definitely think there is one in the near future for our San Jose Sharks let me know what your guys thoughts on everything Celebrity had to say down below in the comment section are you get are you getting a copy of NHL 27 let me know down below uh as well but I do also want to give a huge shout out again to today's sponsor prize picks like I said go down below in the pinned comment in the description hit the link download the app use code digest you got some great promotions on right now like flex friday and taco tuesday which is today where your project your projections will get boosted uh so make sure to go down below hit that link make some picks it's the best way to get on all the action is prize picks hit that link download the app use code digest but like I said I want to hear all your guys thoughts about everything we talked about here on the video uh and as always I've been your host Casey keep a stick on the ice
