This Sharks injury update is SCARY...
Oct 23, 2026
Last night, the San Jose Sharks finally got
their first regulation win of the season.
However, it came with a major blow to the roster.
Yay, we finally won in regulation, 6-2 over Ottawa, so a hell of a win.
Yay, but at what cost?
We sacrificed Igor Chernyshov
because he got hurt really early into the game,
but we held it together and got that win in regulation.
Yay, finally a regulation win.
And honestly, it was a really fun game to watch.
Again, Chernyshov got hurt really early, but we held it together.
And it was all around a good game.
You know, shout out, major, major shout out to Yaroslav Askarov.
He looked amazing.
Ottawa had over 40 shots on goal last night.
Askarov looked amazing.
And for the third game in a row, or at least my third video in a row,
Jacob Truba, the man that you are, you look amazing.
But we're here to talk about Chernyshov,
getting hurt, and the things that come with it.
There's a lot to unpack there.
But before I do, I just want to remind you guys
that we're still on Twitter.
Our handle's still at Sharks Digest.
And we're still there to give you the latest news,
trades, reports, and rumors about the San Jose Sharks.
We can't always hop on a video, but we can always send out a tweet.
And it's just another way to talk to you guys, and we love doing that.
So give us a follow and a shout at Sharks Digest on Twitter.
Yay, fun animation time.
although not a very fun topic here
but Igor Chernyshov he got hurt last night and with it we
have a hole in our lineup we had a quote
from Ryan Warsawski after the game saying that it might take
him a little bit to come back at the time
of this recording there has been no update although by the
time I post there might be but at the time
of the recording there has not been any update about him
We just know that it seems like he's going to be out long term.
We got a notification like early in the game,
not long after he left the game last night
that he wasn't going to return to the game.
So I'm really not that surprised to see that he might be out long term.
I wouldn't be surprised if he broke something.
He basically blocked a shot with his wrist,
which I would not advise blocking shots that
way.
Actually, something very,
very similar happened to Jesper Fast like 10 years ago when he was
on the Rangers. Blocked a shot with his wrist
and he just broke that bone right there and was out
for a pretty substantial amount of time.
So I really wouldn't be that surprised if Chernyshov
was out for a good amount of time.
Especially with just how he blocked that shot. I, yeah,
he's not coming back for at least another couple of weeks.
But he did actually play a little bit
last night. He got a shot on goal,
played almost five minutes, seven shifts, had two hits and a
although again that block was with his wrist
but still in that very very short period of time that
we got to see him last night he was still really effective
so it's going to be a really big loss
to not have him especially on that line
because he just brings a really big piece of added
physicality to that line i mentioned it
in the last video that i talked about him playing on
that line. Will Smith, like, when we saw him playing center,
we saw how much bulk he's added
in the offseason and how physical he can be,
but he's still more of a finesse player, so having a
guy like Chernyshov on that line is really,
really helpful, especially for the way that he carries
the puck to the net just using his size.
I've made this comparison before, but it is literally like
that scene in Shrek when all Lord Farquahar's men are jumping on him
and he's just still going. That
is literally Igor Chernyshov.
Or for the King of the Hill fans, he's like the bulldozer, bulldotree.
Yeah, he is so good at just powering through.
So that is going to be a really, really big loss for
that line. But during the game,
we had a supplement come in and it's not a surprising one. It's one
we've seen on this line before
and it was honestly fun to see him back there because he's been on the
fourth line for a while now and that is of course
we had Colin Graf making a case for that top line
spot he was playing on it after Chernyshov went down last night
and he had a great great game
last night amazing game from Colin Graf he
was so so noticeable our penalty killing king
oh my god we had two shorthanded goals last night
and Colin Graf was a big part of that
he is so good shorthanded he's
so good with defensive responsibilities he's just such a
complete two-way forward and he ended up on the score sheet last night
because of that he had a
goal and an assist he was plus two he had three shots
on goal he even had a takeaway and a hit
plus two blocks and 23 shifts almost 20 minutes
on ice really really great night from Colin Graf
so would it be surprising if we saw him
on that top line, no not at all, again he was playing on
that top line, firstly not even just last season before Chernyshov came
in, but he was fitting in
really really well on that top line, he's used
to playing with them, he's played with them before he
looked a lot better with that line than he did with like Stenberg
and Wenberg who's also hurt
now but um that's not news
but Graff looks really good on that line especially with the added
defensive responsibility that he gives
to that line I wouldn't be surprised if we were seeing
him play on that line
however that being said, we've talked about this a lot but we have said
in the past, just spread the wealth.
However, now with Chernyshov hurt, we could potentially be
seeing Ivar Stenberg on that line
because like this little graphic here thing says, he has a
higher ceiling and higher potential on that line
because he's just more of a skilled player in
general. Obviously we know that he was second overall,
should have been first, but he's
incredibly skilled and a dynamic skater, moves
the puck really really well, fits in really nicely with
Celebrini, so because of that he
is the more high octane option, um he had a goal last night
empty net goal, a shot on goal, he did have two giveaways
though which might be a little bit more
of a reason to lean towards Colin Graff on that line instead just
because Colin Graff is just so
freaking responsible in every way, not that Ivar isn't
because I have stressed so much Ivar's
defensive responsibility
because he is so unbelievably good at it, but I think when we
have a line of a bunch of superstars like
that Colin Graff might be the better option just because
of his two-way abilities
but again Ivar is a really complete two-way forward but he's still
really young, could develop a little bit more, sometimes he tries
to do a little bit too much
because he's just that good
and it can sometimes backfire, it happens a lot, like it happens across
the league, that's why guys like Connor McDavid have
a decent amount of giveaways just because
you know, sometimes they try to do a lot
and the puck just comes off their stick, it's not anything
necessarily that they're doing wrong, it's just that they're
so good that sometimes it just doesn't
always work that way, that's sometimes what happens
with Stenberg, he tries to do much, do too much and
sometimes the puck gets off his stick
and I feel like maybe if he's playing with Celebrini he might
try to do a little bit more but he would
also be a really good fit on that line, you guys know
I just love this kid, he's been absolutely outstanding
this season, again, Calder season
he has 11 games played and eight points, three goals, five assists
and in his last five games
he has four points two goals two assists
and in the last game, not the one against Ottawa but the
against Montreal, he had an assist
and he actually became the first teenager in Sharks history
to have five assists in his first 10 career games
That's amazing. And now he's got another point on
top of that. So he's just so amazing.
Again, eight points, 11 games played. Amazing stuff from Ivar
Stenberg. Wouldn't it be crazy to have him playing
on that line with Celebrini? He's, again,
responsible in both directions.
But again, that being said, maybe Colin Graf is slightly a better
option just because he does. Where are you, Colin?
There you are. Just because he is just so, so
solid defensively. And also, again,
I like the idea of keeping, you know, the wealth spread a
little bit more, maybe keeping Evar on that second line,
because again, we have so many high octane
forwards. It's kind of fun to spread the wealth.
Although again, he is so fun to watch with
Celebrini, but I do think that the reasonable option could
be Colin Graf. Now we've talked
about who fills Chernyshov's role on that top line,
which that is a big role to fill. Again,
he's a big guy, uses his size and speed to really propel the play.
That is going to be a really big
gloss but now we also have to ask
who gets his actual spot on the roster not on the lineup but
on the roster and I'm saying it's either Gaudette
or Bustet which Gaudette has actually been
practicing with the team for a decent amount
of time he practiced with them yesterday as an extra
forward um he has said that he really doesn't want
to be traded he likes being here he's moved around
the lot doesn't want to move around anymore you know he knows he's
not playing but he'd rather
stay here anyway and honestly knowing Warsawski
he's probably gonna play him just because i don't
know what's up with Warsawski
and his like obsession with Gaudette and Delandria especially
but i wouldn't be that surprised he's already here
you know he's already practicing with the team
not that the Barracuda is far
but Gaudette's already practicing with the team he's already
here so i think it's probably more likely that that's
who fills in Chernyshov's spot on the
lineup but let's just look at Gaudette's overall stats
and stuff like that so his scouting report
you know he's okay he's definitely not a superstar not bad
though fourth liner you know he's a guy
that you have when you need in circumstances like
this when a guy goes down and you need to fill a
spot in the lineup he's not anything special
but like I honestly I kind of agree with this it
seems a little bit mean
but I think he's gotten lucky I think it's just like you know again he
he's solid he is a very solid player
but I don't think that his actual stats are reflective of him
what type of player he actually is.
It's kind of the same thing for Delandria. I don't know. I
mean, I would rather have Gaudette playing than Delandria,
but with that being said, I really,
really think that Bustet deserves a chance.
I mean, firstly, I was a teeny tiny little bit
disappointed that Bustet got sent down before opening night
that we didn't get to see him at
all. He had a pretty good preseason, so I'm a little upset by that.
I would really like to see
more of him because he's been really good.
He's been outstanding to start with the Barracuda.
In six games played, he has six points, four goals, two assists.
He's tied for first on the
Barracuda with goals,
and he's in third for total points on the Barracuda. I mean, he's been
outstanding. He's proved that he's ready to make the jump to the NHL,
and I think this is the
perfect opportunity to call him up.
Again, I would much, much rather see Bustet instead of
definitely Delandria, but maybe Gaudette.
Again, that being said, though, considering he's already
practicing with the team
and Morzovskiy just really loves this guy for some reason, I think it's
probably likely that we're going to see Gaudette instead of Bustet.
But I really do think we should
be calling up Bustet I mean how much more can
this guy prove himself to the team again he is
leading the Barracuda right now he has
been absolutely outstanding to start the season
really cannot ask for more from him
and he it has amazing speed and vision and that's exact
the speed specifically is what we're missing with Chernyshov being out
because like I said
Chernyshov really uses his size to drive the puck forward
and Bustet uses his speed to use the move
the puck forward so I would much rather see him play
but again I don't know how likely that is
just considering Warsawski and again the fact
that Gaudette is already with the team I don't know if
we're gonna be seeing Bustet get called up
but I would love to because I want to see that guy some more
He's so good. He has earned his spot. What more do you want from him?
This is the perfect opportunity to call him up again.
I don't want to see Delandria anymore
I mean not that Delandria has been particularly awful,
but I would much much rather give Bustet a chance here
But let me know what you guys think.
I am so sad to see Chernyshov go down again
I expect him to be out for at least a couple
of weeks just based on what happened
but we'll know more hopefully by the time
this video posts, maybe we'll know and
Maybe I can stop speculating
But let me know what you guys think
I would love to see Bustet
Maybe Colin Graff on that top line
Maybe Evar Stenberg
Who knows
Probably Gaudette though instead of Bustet
Unfortunately for me
But drop a comment below
Love chatting with you guys
