We're here in Elmhurst. We had a fire in this two-story private dwelling here.
We had fire on the rear deck that extended into the first floor and the
second floor of the building. The units did a great job addressing the issues
with getting the lines to the rear into the first and the second floor.
Here for about 45 minutes operated. The guys did a great job and the fire is
under control now and you can see they're taking up the hose line.
We did have a word from the occupants. There were
five dogs in the building. They've all been found and returned to the yard.
Our responsibility as the F.A.S.T. truck is to make sure that everybody inside is
safe. If anyone were to go down, our responsibility is to go in and go
address that. Today I have what we call the nozzle
position. The nozzle position is actually the position where
we actually put the fire out. So I was the OV man at
the fire just now. We were outside that F.A.S.T. team so our
responsibility right off the bat is do a walk around
and see if there's any hazards that I can quickly mitigate.
These guys are all on top of it. I did a 360, reported back to my officer
and thankfully no one was hurt and we weren't needed to be activated.
Our inside positions is the can firefighter. They're going to take the
can here and they're going to take the hook.
The irons firefighter takes the forcible entry. This is the thermal imaging camera.
You check this is what we usually see in the dark.
This detects specifically gas. This detects all types of natural gases in
different orders.
All right guys what do we got tonight? So I'm going to be on control.
Ali's going to be in the nozzle. Jay's going to be backing him up. We got each other's backs
and stuff like that and you know whatever we go through we go
through it together. It's an honor to be able to
help the public, help the city of New York and do it with your best friends.
You live this job and it's something that you constantly think about
even when you're off duty. If anybody has an issue we're always there to pick each
other up, help each other out. We got a call for somebody locked in the
train station so we went around and we looked at both tracks, both elevators,
their locker rooms. Nobody was locked in. No additional
information from dispatch. At that point we've exhausted all our
options and we just make it a 1031 which is just an investigation with
with no condition. Since the sixth grade I want to be a
firefighter. It's not easy but it is the best job in the world.
Every time you go out in the truck the kids go waving at us, everyone in the
community's waving at us, they're all saying hi.
Whether you had a call or whether you're not just knowing that you're that one
that someone can lean on to at times of need.
One day you can be helping that same person that's waving and cheering you on.
When you have the residents thanking you it's no,
there's no greater feeling than that. Being a fireman is great. We absolutely
enjoy what we do. Don't hesitate to call if you need us.
