Jalen Hurts' diagnosis raises awareness of African American blood clot risk

The diagnosis of blood clots in the lungs of Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts is drawing attention to the risks and warning signs associated with blood clots, including the heightened risk among African Americans.

Dr. Ala Stanford, founder of the Dr. Ala Stanford Center for Health Equity and the Black Doctors Consortium, said blood clots can affect both elite athletes and everyday people.

"Twenty-five percent of patients who have a superficial clot can have a deep venous clot," Stanford said.
