a spectacular list please begin let's kick it off
let's talk about the brand new album from greta van fleet
this is the palace for the people uh
fourth album from uh led zeppelin inspired yes uh rockers
from frankenmuth michigan
um you know and i want to this is a very divisive band we
were having a little chat before this
and going and you know it's always these the bands
that really are so closely influenced by
led zeppelin in every decade yeah have really had
a problem like in the 70s there was Smokey
in the 80s there was kingdom come yes rival sons most recently
and it's just i think it's hard for
people when you're basically kind of emulating
to the degree that they are yeah the sound of a of a
flagship heritage band uh it's just kind of a tough road to hoe
but um uh this right new record's
more depth to it i think they're trying to push it
in some some new directions and say so that they
can say there's more to their band than than Led Zeppelin
but ultimately Robert Plant's a fan so
yeah you know look man if that's if that's
your wheelhouse they do that particular brand of rock
and roll very well very well and then
and there are the guys dude and the guitar tone is like
spot on it's really good yeah and then you got
some colored vinyl there we've got colored vinyl
um and this if i can find it where is it
and here it is all right look at this it doesn't tell us
what it is no so this is we just use our own you know
our own thing there you go all right
Greta Van Fleet all right it is time for did you know
this is how it works quinn is going to ask
a trivia question about our first artist Greta Van Fleet we're looking
for the first correct answer
jump on that qr code send us an email
the first correct answer is going to win something wonderful
for two things that are going to trust me you're going
to be blown away ask the question did you
know in 2018 the band was invited to perform
at a famous musician's legendary oscar party and
charity event who was the musician
and which of his songs did he perform with them wow yeah that's
a good one you always ask the good ones all right
guys remember first correct answer is going to be
the winner, this is what you're going to win
if you're wondering, you get your choice of any of
the Killer Cactus music T-shirt, so it's your choice
and you don't get a choice on this one
we're giving you the Reuben Dominguez bobblehead
sorry you got it, there you go, that's all we got
all right, more music, brand new record from Cameron Winter
this is live at Carnegie Hall, New York
uh you know, i mean, this is the lead singer of Geese
who had a huge breakthrough, probably the
breakthrough band of 2025, this is a solo show he recorded
in december of 2025 and uh speechless
spare versions piano and voice only of his tracks
from his debut solo album Heavy Metal, very unique
voice, very unique voice, um not my cup
of tea particularly this album, um but you know um
they've been successful, he's
been successful, just played ACL, just played
ACL, huge huge fan base and you know congratulations Cameron, yeah not
everybody gets to play Carnegie Hall
absolutely and this really lays his
style, yeah, so if you're very talented thing, yes you you
if you thought you
loved it or hate it, you're really gonna
love it or hate it, very slide thing, well
said my friend, brand new record from Harry Connick
this is Babe, Ella Barrosio, a tribute to
my mother, this has such an interesting story
um Harry Connick Jr, this is this this is you know
New Orleans legend this is 50 minutes
of uh orchestral big band solo piano and it's all
tribute to his mother who uh was diagnosed with cancer
when he was 10 died when he was 13
and so 45 years later there's a love letter to his mom
and you know you're starting to hear i mean
this year all of a sudden i think the catalyst
is the Anderson Cooper podcast which some people may
have seen out there but there's all these records that are about grief
and intimate and getting to
know your grief the Sarah Bareilles records one
of the best records of the year a good grief and this
is really a fantastic statement from uh one
of the most important piano players and artists from New
New Orleans um i gave it a little you know i kind
of sampled it um i enjoyed it's in three parts uh
part three is uh titled New Orleans
that was my favorite part of the of the album anyway good
stuff from Harry yep important stuff uh brand new record
from Remy Wolf i like this i love it too
this is Mud and uh you know this is a less production
no synth no drum machines or previous
records were these like soul pop party albums right yep
um uh funky pop she's she's overcome
some personal issues and and this is thoughtful
grounded organic record i i think this is her
first great album and i've liked
the others too agreed yeah you got some colored vinyl i enjoyed this i
do have colored vinyl it takes me a minute to get
to it man this is this is a pattern is showing
with this gray right it's like the last one yeah it's kind of smoky
and gray and her voice reminds
me a lot of Lola Young all right there we go
moving through it all right guys it is time for
drop karaoke feast your eyes on this gentleman
who is doing a very passionate cover of what is
love by Haddaway now i i couldn't tell
because you know i grabbed it from tiktok uh i think this
person goes by Bryce Green Reaper uh i'm
not sure where this takes place because it was not
immediately available but uh you know kudos
for getting up there the rest of the video he actually
adds choreography so yeah yes yeah there's like
a almost James Brown kind of split at the end
we're showing you this because we want you
to send your karaoke video you could be dancing
you could be singing you could be playing
the guitar you could be driving in your car send it
to us and we'll put you on the screen
and talk about you how about that and the list goes on
and on and on with all the groovy music today yeah we're carrying
on this is the brand new record
from Toby Wigway
this is the bridge uh grammy nominated uh actor director musician proud
a leaf native this is houston texas crashing right
into uh west african sounds uh very very houston
very very uh uh you know culture clash on this record
um a lot of james brown going on and of
course you know him if you watch uh
the show Mo Mo America he's his best buddy yep best best buddy
on that show and uh this is a very very cool record i like i like
the whole thing it's it's
very very song oriented um gets in a great groove again
a lot of james brown uh he really vault
vaulted to prominence in 2018,
he had a cut on Dope that was on Michelle Obama's
workout playlist. Everybody's like, who's this guy?
And they had to figure it out quick. But
Houston guy, we're very proud of him.
And this record's going to go into big things. It really
is a strong, strong record. Nice. And you got colored vinyl?
What? Yeah. We're on a run. We're
on a run. And it's not gray. It's not smoky or gray.
That's what they call the Coke bottle clear.
oh yeah 100 i was about to say all right brandy record
from shiny ribs um this is i love the title
real alligator and that kind of makes sense
because he does a whole lot of swamp pop and
country and soul and everything kind of mixed together
a little bit of blues so is he the real
alligator he might be the real alligator
um and uh you know this was written in a kev wrote this
as a solo record uh kevin russell uh known for the gourds
and uh Shiny Ribs but then uh you know
kind of worked it in with the band
so it's got kind of a more personal there's always a lot of
humor he's a great showman great singer he's going
to be at the Duck on the 27th so go see him at
the Monkey always a really really fun show
and uh another great record from him love it all right
we uh we're keeping it very Texas in this in this segment
that's how it should be Texas and the
Moon Rocks friends that i don't like
and you know there's been uh of in recent years all this
cross-pollination of like rock rock rock music
and country music that's what these guys are doing
they claim to play western space grunge
and i think that's a pretty good description of it
because it is definitely country
and it sounds a lot like Nirvana at times if i know that's
it's odd tried to get that i tried
to get tickets uh from for them for my daughter and
like we looked at nearby cities to to go
to everything is sold yeah out yeah they're from
Dallas they're from Throckmorton County i don't
think there's really even a real city or town i
don't even know where that is yeah yeah i don't
i don't need i think it's up near Dallas uh they
had a huge hit freaking out
with a huge international hit that really kind of blew
blew them out and uh they really like Cheez-Its you
can Cheez-Its are pretty good they're terrible
for you but you can read it you can read more about them online
and and their Cheez-It
fascination um ready record from Slow Pulp
this is the third album from one of the uh most important
shoegazy bands we've talked about shoegaze long
on the drop quite a bit you know it's really kind
of a re-emerging music trend with the uh young folks
this is a very different record um in in
that it's produced by Elliott Kozol,
who produced Lizzo and RZA and Rosalia.
Their album from 2023 was like on everyone's top 10 list from the year.
Rolling Stone, New York Times, Stereo Gum, Pitchfork, Fader.
And they're going to be at White Oak Music Hall on November 4th.
I think I'm going to try to go catch it.
This is shoegaze elements, but it's really pop, very song oriented.
it doesn't kind of drone on right for too long uh great singer
this is a cool band i might have to
go with you oh colored vinyl guys
that is very blue limited edition colored vinyl is all they
tell us but that is blue rich deep blue all right time
to mosey on over to the drop facts and we
have been featuring on this segment the art of the album
and what do you have there and cactus staff
talking about the art of them well i'm taking a shot this time
and i'm going to talk about the
Bee Gees Odessa this is their concept album uh from 1969
of which i i dare you to determine what the
concept of this album is because lyrically it is so it is so uh kooky
and so is this like how they
it released it as far as i know i wanted to pick
this because it's velvet yes this is as far as i
one of the only flocked album covers
that was ever released at the time.
It was like people were flipping out by it.
It's a 50-year-old album,
and this is flocking still intact.
And from back in the day,
that's how they made Black Light posters.
Yes, you had much better quality of flock.
Yeah.
I think now the flock is not as good.
There's a joke there somewhere.
I don't know what it is.
But anyway.
so if you just had to like loosely take a guess
at what the concept is about the Crimean War
it's it's in there somewhere
but check it out this is actually this is actually one of their
best records but i just want to show you
the cover because it's so odd that it's
a flocked like a black held up pretty yeah 50
years old good lord 50 plus the brother's good
oh yeah okay let's go back to back
to music let's talk about Texas Headhunters i wasn't using
it was it was a flocked album cover uh you know
these guys Texas Texas Headhunters this is uh
uh Jesse Mauler Ian Moore
and and our friend Jesse Dayton they're actually all our pals here
at Cactus second album of hot shot guitar blues roots rock
um good stuff uh from them
they had a record two years ago
and it was such a big hit i mean they had to make another one
I would like to see them live.
I missed them the last time they did a Houston set.
My son, Graham Bishop, saw them and said they were remarkably good.
I bet they are.
And I think my favorite track on here, that Rise and Shine song,
I think you're going to be hearing more of that song.
It is a good one.
Hopefully we get a tour date soon.
Let's go.
We have a brand new record from Wade Bowen.
This is the version of Me You Get, which I like the title a lot.
um Wade Waco native Red Dirt singer songwriter
country artist uh you know he's in kind of a tough
spot because there's a whole pack
of these Texas Oklahoma country Red Dirt guys they're not the
elder statesman's like like Robert Earl Keen or like Joe Ely
was and they're not like the young
guys they're kind of the dudes in the middle that are just carving out
and making you know really
solid records on the road probably 200 days a year
um but he's this is a very gritty and rough
hewn record i think it's he's he always comes
with a strong record this this is no um no no
difference you get a good quote from uh
who says that uh this is from the Alt Country News quote
uh Bowen doesn't just sing about pain he documents survival oh wow
that's that's heavy so top
record from a great record
from the top go get it guy on the scene or come here
and buy it how about that and we always close
the new release program with it
with the story record and I think
this is a great story this is Israel Nash
who's a Texas singer-songwriter really producer he does
a ton of production
work and he really is part
of this like spacey cosmic cowboy kind of thing and
he covers the Birds 1968 album Sweetheart of the Rodeo which if you're
familiar with is probably the most important uh
country rock record ever released it uh that's the
emergence of Gram Parsons um with the Birds
and it's just stacked and it was like the the moment
the tipping point moment for for country rock
so uh he does this but he radically reinterprets
everything to where it's like the spacey pop he's got
this hypnotic voice uh um um does just really
in interesting versions of these tunes and he's got
who's on 100 years from now um does it say
oh boy and i can't remember anyways uh look it
up yeah check it out great reinterpretation of
a classic album there we go it's time
for reissues yeah people love reissues and archival music
and this is john prine's lost dogs
and mixed blessings uh this is called found dogs as opposed
to lost dogs and what this is this is his uh some
previously unreleased music some covers but demos
and working versions of the songs that 30 years ago made up
his lost dogs album and um you know
really gives an insight to the process writing process
of one of the great american songwriters
and this is first available as a record store day edition
which sold out immediately so it's good
that it's back as a standard black vinyl which
which actually sounds better by the way funny
thing about this record so it's 30 years down
the line yeah they say that's 231 years in dog years
there you go i like it for you dog fans out there
they got you they got you good uh okay ella langley
you know has had this monster she's one
of the biggest artists to emerge breaking records yeah
breaking records chart topping that choosing Texas song
is the longest running number one
track on the billboard hot 100 ever it's really
she's smashing boundaries stylistically and with
her album Dandelion and this is the reissue
of her first album Hungover 15 tracks and I don't
know that this has ever really
been physically available maybe it was available on CD
somewhere but certainly not on LP
and uh it is just amazing how it's wild how popular she is and
how she is connected with people
who aren't even uh country fans but that Choosing Texas song I
guarantee you wherever you go today you'll probably hear it here
at once and you got some colored
vinyl there from Ella on plum let's see it
is that plum it's kind of rouge I don't know what it is
yeah plum crazy coming
with that right there uh okay there's another archival record or
reissue The Go-Betweens a wonderful Australian uh whatever you want
to call it alternative college
rock that that 80s 90s era stuff that wasn't big
on the radio uh this is Fountains of Youth live
at Town and Country Club London uh 10th of May 1987
and it's really great uh has all their best
songs on it career retrospective this was part
of a box set that sold out long time ago I think
we only ever got one copy of it sold immediately
and now those box sets are thousands of dollars
online so they're breaking out some of the music
so you can get it and this is they've never had a
uh in the run of the band they never had a proper live album
so you get it here this is it it's
great it's very well recorded it's very fun it's very very uh upbeat
and lively um their records
had tended to be a little bit of like a studio creation
so you get you get that where it's
coming as a uh kind of a little rocked up
a little bit i love it cool good job all right guys we're
gonna open the doors now to the classics vault
this is where we go way back and i have selected
Bossa Nova by the Pixies uh so it kind
of a odd album compared to what they'd done to this point
a little bit so maybe trying to stretch out a little bit
or do something a little different
by choice uh still some really really really good songs
on here um i love Dig for Fire i love
Velouria um and you know i was i had
the i bought i remember going to the store when this came out
and i bought it on cd sure and got it home threw it in the cd player
and i immediately didn't hear
a what i thought Pixies' favorite song
was for me yeah if that makes sense but this is this
album over the years has grown on me
because i'll forget about it for 10 years and then i'll hear a
song and then i'll go back and listen to it
and i just listened to it the other day and i was like
man i really like that album i think it's kind
of a fan favorite like the obvious like go-to's or
that people do historically yeah no but this this is definitely
a cool record um and um i can't ever
say the word Pixies
or hear the word Pixies without remembering uh several years ago where
where it was Sting, not Sting, Spin or Pitchfork
or Rolling Stone, somebody did a list of the top 50
most important, I don't know if they called it
alternative guitarists or, you know, whatever.
But, and it had all the people you would expect
that were very creative.
This is non like hard rock guitarists, right?
Yeah, yeah.
And Joey Santiago was not on the list.
and I just thought that was a crime.
Anyway, go check this album out if you've never heard it.
What do you think about that?
I think it's awesome.
All right.
How are we doing on time?
What's going on, guys?
It's a little segment we do.
We kind of catch up over the week
to see what this dude's been doing
and what I've been doing.
You're first, my friend.
We're still reeling from the fact
that we talked about Toby Wiges' album earlier,
and just to you know keep it fresh here on the drop,
we had we hosted his first ever fan event
in store of course in his hometown record store
Houston Texas and they brought out let me guess
cool cars they brought out like a photo booth it
was a whole scene man
and people were uh it's a power TV being on a television show people
people felt really connected to him
and he's very sweet guy family here and everything it was it was
just a superb that was fantastic man you guys always host
the the best events so what were
you guys charging at the door for this event
that'd be zero zero yeah yeah to meet to meet
a recording artist hang out the in stores
at Cactus if you have not attended i say it all
the time you need to show up for one that sounds
that's pretty good yeah yeah that's that's pretty
good i worked briefly with his cousin oh is that right yep oh neat
and there you go he said she
said he was a wonderful dude never met all right
so for me uh you know man last week was filled
with all sorts of stuff man it was kind of crazy
um went to went to a couple of you know like
restaurant opening things
and and um a buddy of mine used to have a lovely bar down the street
from my house called the Corkscrew my buddy andy yeah
my buddy andy uh he's had a couple of
different bars since then he's currently
in the Heights he's got a little bar called Cafe Vino
so it's a coffee shop in the morning
and then it gradually switches over to wine and beers and
it's a good model it's an old house right there
on i think he's on Heights or Yale i can't remember
anyway uh so this weekend was i can't remember
the name he had for it WinePalooza or something
or the great wine festival tasting
and so they had you know you walk in you paid but whatever
the little fee at the door was you get your little your little glass
and you go and they had the
different people taste taste taste taste taste you
know they had they had uh they had like street
tacos in in the back they had a live band on the uh
on the porch there saw a bunch of folks and the
weather was fantastic remember what we talked about earlier send us
your video for uh drop karaoke we
want to put you guys on there and follow at Cactus Music on Instagram
because that's how you find out
about the in-stores all the cool stuff that happens here
and if there's something happening
and you attend guess what you might get some star pizza
and you'll probably get some cold
Saint Arnold yeah adult bevs we want to hook you up
who doesn't who doesn't love adult bevs all
right guys next week guess what another brand new episode
of the drop have a great week we'll see you
then
