Can Huskies Live in Warm Climates? - FAN FRIDAY #59

I'm Andy from the Lions Den News. This is Shia, our Alaskan Malamute and welcome to Fan Friday. Looks like we're gonna have lazy Fan Friday. I'm videoing this a little bit later than normal because we had to take Shiloh and Shelby to the vet to get Bordetella shots and have their heartworm test done. So they now have all that done. Oh, we got to stay here all by herself. She did pretty good and then when we got back because we felt bad, we took all three of the girls for a nice long walk. So it's gonna be a tiring Fan Friday. First question of the day is from HeyThat'sHolly and if you guys haven't checked out HeyThat'sHolly and HeyThat'sMike on YouTube, you should definitely go check out their channels. They're a lot of fun to watch. They want to know, is it unfair to have a Husky in the heat of Florida? They've been waiting to get a Husky until they moved to a colder climate and they want to know if it's unfair to have a Husky in the heat of Florida. Um, honestly, if you have, you know, all dogs should be inside dogs and if you're gonna have a Husky and you're gonna live in a southern state or you're gonna live in a warmer climate such as Florida or any other southern state, there's really nothing wrong with it as long as you know how to keep the dog cool. Make sure never to shave the Husky. Make sure that if they're outside they have adequate water, a pool, they would love having a pool, um things like that and for the most part they're gonna be inside with you in the air conditioning anyway so it's really no different than having them anywhere else in the country. When you're gonna go for walks and things like that, oh geez I just said that word you guys just went, um when you take them for w-a-l-k's and things like that just make sure to do it early in the morning or late at night so that the temperature outside isn't as hot and make sure to bring water for them. With those tips you can pretty much have a Husky in any warm climate. Right Shelby? Say right! Ann Marie says, a friend of mine has a female Husky that is young but is high energy and needing a high energy friend. My question for you is, she's been thinking about rescuing another female Husky but she's been reading things that say two females in the house can cause aggression and domination issues. You have three. Has it ever been a problem of who wants to dominate who? Um honest answer, Shelby still tries to be dominant over Oakley if we let her. Shelby will sometimes take all of the antlers and all of the toys and she will come and bring them right next to her and then she will wait for Oakley to come and try to take them away. So we just watch her and if she decides she's gonna try to do that we reach in and take all the toys and take them out of the situation and once they realize they're not gonna get to play with them we bring them back and give some to her and some to Oakley and that usually stops any issues from happening. Um we've only had a handful let's see we've had Oakley since February. Hi Oakley! How's it going? How's it going Oakley? We've had Oakley since February. We've probably had about maybe three issues and they weren't like real bad issues. It was more of Shelby had something and Oakley got too close or Oakley had something and Shelby got too close and they just kind of made a lot of noise at each other and then there was no real attack or anything like that but you got to remember all three of these girls are fixed. Oakley was fixed before she got here. These two were fixed before Oakley got here and I do think that helps. Um the dogs need to know that you're the boss in the house and if they know that you're the boss in the house you shouldn't have very many issues with aggression and things like that. Remember these are all the times that I'm answering these questions you guys these are my opinions. I'm not a professional dog trainer. I'm telling you from my personal experience. Um the other thing you can always do contact if you end up getting the dog and have issues contact the dog trainer see if you can get some help. Kelsey wants to know how old were Shiloh and Shelby when they stopped growing? Um Shiloh they were both about two little over two by the time they were at their average height and weight so by about two years old they're pretty much full grown. Adam wants to know how often should you walk a husky? As often as you can definitely as often as you can any chance you get you have downtime you should walk your husky because they really enjoy it it's good for you it's good for them and it keeps them happy healthy and tired. Michelle says do you know what age a husky could come into heat? I have a seven month old who's beginning to show interest in male breeds and I'm just wondering when she could come into season.
