This video marks the beginning of a multi-part conservation project focusing on a severely neglected early 18th-century portrait. The painting is structurally compromised, heavily distorted, and in a fragile condition that raises serious questions about what can realistically be saved.

In this first episode, I carry out a full condition assessment, including close visual analysis and ultraviolet examination, before removing the canvas from its stretcher to properly understand the extent of the damage. The painting is then gently flattened and stabilised, allowing us to see how it responds once the immediate stresses are relieved.

This is not a quick transformation Its a slower pace edit with narration as I work, I hope you like it.

This project will unfold slowly over multiple episodes. If you enjoy seeing the full conservation process — including the uncertainty, trial and error, and decision-making — I share more of that on Patreon: / bloomfieldartrestoration
