The military was able to pinpoint the exact location of Rubén Oseguera Cervantes, better known as El Mencho , the leader of the Jalisco New Generation drug cartel, by tracking the movements of his mistress, according to Mexican Defense Minister Ricardo Trevilla Trejo. According to him, on February 20, the drug cartel leader's partner was brought to a facility in the town of Tapalpa. She left the building on February 21.
"Information was received that El Mencho remained in this location," the head of the department said.
He added that planning for the operation, involving army special forces and the National Guard, began on February 21, and that security forces began the arrest on the night of February 22.
