Protesters confront repressive forces, killing police and IRGC members
16th day of the nationwide uprising, cities across İn İran witnessed widespread clashes and brave acts by rebellious youths. During a confrontation with repressive forces who had opened fire on protesters, Shahin Dehghan, a criminal colonel in the State Security Force in Malard, and Hassan Faramarzi, a criminal IRGC commander in Lordegan, were killed.
Another IRGC officer in Iran, Mehdi Rahimi, known on social media and in protest circles as the “executioner,” was shot dead by protesters.
The incident reportedly took place on January 3 in the city of Malikshahi. Rahimi was accused of ordering IRGC forces to open fire on protesters that day. According to local sources and witnesses, at least nine people were killed as a result of this order.
Some of the demonstrators who survived the incident later identified Rahimi’s address and carried out a revenge attack against him, known as a “home visit.” The officer died at the scene.
The head of the Mashhad Anti-Narcotics Police, Lieutenant Colonel Javad Keshavarz, was killed in an attack by armed rioters.
It should be noted that protests have been ongoing in Iran since December 28 over the devaluation of the national currency.
Iran’s state media say dozens of members of the security forces have been killed during protests against an economic crisis, as the parliament speaker warns the United States and Israel of retaliatory strikes if Washington attacks the country.
State television said that 30 members of the police and security forces were killed in Isfahan province and six others in Kermanshah in western Iran in the latest riots. The semiofficial Tasnim news agency reported that 109 security personnel had been killed in the protests across the country.
The Iranian Red Crescent Society, meanwhile, said a staff member died during an attack on one of its relief buildings in Gorgan, the capital of Golestan province.
The Ministry of Interior said the “riots” are gradually subsiding, while the attorney general has warned that those involved in the unrest could face the death penalty.
