Hi, I'm Matt. Today I thought I'd take you through one of my favourite popular songs.
I think it's the first song on the Octopus album.
I play it in C, G, C, G, C, D, F.
If you want to play it on your record, you do have to put a capo on the 5,
but I'm just going to play it without a capo.
So it starts with an introduction, it goes like this, isn't it?
It's got an alternating bass on it.
The first is C, so you're playing on the 2nd string.
You hammer on the 2, 2 to 4, and play 2 chords.
So I'm putting my feeder on the 2nd fret of the 4th string,
and here I'm alternating again, just keeping the 2, 2 there.
The melody is on the 2nd string, so it's open and hammer on to 2.
Just like that.
And then you slide up, you can hear the slide going.
It's an F chord, which is 9 at the 5th,
and you put your feeder on the 7th fret of the top string.
And you take your feeder off, play it twice.
It's an F chord, so the F note is on the 5th fret.
I've played that 3 times now.
It goes back to C chord, and you hammer on the 2nd string.
Pull the 2 off.
So, 4 a couple of times.
Hammer on the 5, back to the G.
I did before, but open, hammer on the 2.
Here it goes. Pull off the 4, 0, 4, 2, 0,
then the 2 back on, and take it off.
That's the sound.
The verse itself goes...
This is the C chord, so I've got my feeder on the 5th fret of the top string.
It's an F chord, on the 5th.
I need my feeder off to the 7th.
Back to C.
G chord, so you've got 0, 2, 0, 2, 0.
It's a C chord, a G chord.
That's a C7, so I just move my finger that was on the 5th fret of the 5th string down to 3.
G in, it's G in.
There's lots of variations you can play in lots of different ways.
There's just a fairly basic way to get you started.
Amazing songs. I think it's his first song that he wrote.
So, I hope you've enjoyed that. I hope it's been helpful.
