Welcome back. Today I thought I'd show you Gently Tender,
Mike Caron's amazing song from 5000 Spirits. She had another song from the early days that
sits really well under the C, G, C, D, C, D. I've got my cap on 7 because if you
wanted to play along with the record you'd have to have your cap on 7.
And I'll show it to you, I'll do the tuition part, I'll take the cap off so you can hear
what it would sound like with the cap on 7. The introduction goes something like this.
So those are the main guitar lines. I'll just take the cap off now to show you how to play it.
See the introduction, you play the bass note and on the top 2 strings you've got the finger
on the 3rd fret of the top string and the 2nd on the 2nd string. So you slide that up to the 5th,
so you play it twice. You play the bass note, play that 2 and 3 twice and just slide it up to 4 and 5.
Then come across to 4 and 5, 4's on the 3rd string and 5's on the 4th string.
Slide that up to 5 and 7. Bass note, bass note.
So the first part is just, you're just doing the C chord here,
my standard C chord is just put the finger on the 5th fret of the 5th string.
When it comes to the slightest shadow, slightest shadow, that's the G chord,
that's 0-2-0-2 on the middle 4 strings.
Slide it back up to the C, then you play that line, so that's on the top string, 5-2-0-2
and F which is 5th, so C which is 0-4-5-3-4.
Where am I dreaming gently, so it starts off with a C, where am I, my name is F,
that's your binary 5th. Dreaming is your G chord, gently.
It's A minor, sometimes I think it was, which is 0-2-4-5 on the 5th, 4th and 1st strings.
Sometimes I think it was G, but it's F, but then I, low, 0-2-0-2.
Don't leave my feet as much, usually, slide it up to, it goes then,
it's repeated by a second time round.
So that is on the 2nd string, 2 and open, 3rd string is 3 and open,
4th string it's 5-3-open, 5th string it's 3-open and 6th string it's 5-3-open.
So it's 2-2-open, 3-open, 5-3-open, 3-open, 5-3-open.
But the second time round you don't play the first 2, the first 3 notes,
it starts off in the open G, which is your open 3rd string.
And just with those 3 little guitar breaks you've got the whole piece,
it's basically all in C, F and G with the occasional A minor,
you've got these little runs to punctuate it.
I think it's a great song, it's good to play.
So after you've done that,
repeated that a few times, then you put the introduction back in.
That way all the strings just resonate in the background to support
and fill out the sound of the guitar part of the song.
So I hope that's been helpful,
so if you want to play along with the record you'd have to put your capo on the 7th fret.
It's a great song and I hope you enjoy playing it,
