Former Army Captain and interrogator Jesse Petrilla joins The Brief: Insights From The Inside to unpack the jihadist long game—from recruiting child suicide bombers and weaponizing Western campuses to why phrases like “You have the watches, we have the time” matter. Drawing on 400+ detainee interrogations, Petrilla explains how Islamist extremists think, how they use deception, madrassas, and generational planning, and what free societies can do to defend Western values without apology.
If I'm a constitutionalist and if I'm
someone who believes in freedom of
religion, why are so many conservatives
or detractors bothered by a city like a
Dearbornne, Michigan, what is something
that perhaps we're missing that you seem
to be talking about in your book?
>> Well, I think it's again it goes back to
the long-term game. I mean, we're like
frogs being boiled in a pot. The way the
jihadists operate, they only carve the
world into two sections. They they call
it Darl Harb, which is the land of war,
and Darl Islam, which is the land that's
already under Sharia law. So, we're
obviously not under Sharia law yet, and
I'll I'll continue to fight against
that. I'll always be free or I'll be
dead. That's the way I look at things.
Uh and so, the uh the the So, we're part
of the land of war that is yet to be
conquered. And so, the way they work,
it's very generational. They they even
I've got a quote in the book from from
Gaddafi uh where he he said you know
we're going to conquer Europe one day
without bullets without swords we're
going to out breed them is what he said
these are his words and and there's
several other quotes from other other
leaders in the Islamic world as well.
There's a reason why the so many Islamic
nations in the the Middle East are not
accepting refugees. They're pushing them
into the West deliberately because it's
part of this long-term plan. And
unfortunately, Americans only think
maybe two to four years in the future,
which is our reelection cycle. I mean,
there's not a whole lot of us thinking
long term, but our Giatists are. They're
fighting this thousand-year war. So, I'd
like everyone take a second, picture
your hometown right now as it looks in
2025 and then now picture it a thousand
years from now. Has anybody have you
ever done that? I mean, nobody does
that. Nobody thinks about that. And
we've got two possible futures. Star
Trek or Stone Age. And I'm a big Treker.
I love Star Trek. And I I don't want it
to look like the Stone Age. But
unfortunately, our enemies have that
vision that we don't have. And they want
they want to turn us into this stone age
society under an Islamic caliphate and
and we've got to stand up to it
otherwise it's it's we're going to be
conquered before we know it. There's one
thing I'll add to that that I did hear
in Afghanistan a lot that was a very
telling phrase that's very common among
the mujahedin there where they would say
you have the watches but we have the
time. M one of the things that I found
really fascinating in your book and
again if it takes a thousand years
definitely encourage my my listeners to
get a copy was the depiction of young
Muslim men who are actually born in
Western European countries Germany the
UK France and unlike their parents they
are first generation of their host
countries yet nevertheless they're
actually more radical than their parents
who were born in Syria Afghanistan Yemen
and elsewhere so I guess I'm curious
number one how do you actually measure
radicalism and then number two how is
this possible that we have young
Europeans who were born into these
countries yet nevertheless hold more
terrorist sympathies than their actual
parents.
>> Well, it comes down to two things.
Europe doesn't have the 14th amendment.
I think the 14th amendment needs to pre
be protected at all cost and that's
birthright citizenship. Uh when
somebody's born an American, they're an
American. They're not looked at as any
different than anyone else. And if
you're walking down the street, nobody's
going to look at somebody and be like,
"Oh, he's part of another tribe." Ah, I
mean it's it's very different in the
rest of the world. Unfortunately, in
French society, in German society, in
many societies in Europe, they really
carve themselves along these ethnic
lines. And unfortunately, people on the
left right now, if you see that, they're
really pushing the same thing. They're
trying to focus on ethnicity. They're
trying to get away from this melting pot
that we have that we're so blessed to
have in America. And I I talk about this
in depth in my book in the latter third
of it where uh we need to enact policies
that promote assimilation and and the
way to do that is is I mean you can go
across the board with things whether
it's printing official documents in
English whether it's it's promoting
English as the language of the land. I
mean there's different things that we
can go through to help people assimilate
and and two it's education. uh the the
the biggest problem with growing
fundamentalists. These are the
factories. These are the terrorist
factories are the madrasas. The Islamic
schools have have managed to permeate
much of the world particularly in the
Middle East but but also in Europe. I
mean there's the a lot of peninsula
money a lot of from the Arabian
Peninsula comes into spreads throughout
the world into these Islamic schools.
out of the the 400 plus interrogations
that I've participated in of captured
al-Qaeda, Taliban, Hakani, terrorists,
uh I I didn't find a single one of them
that did not go through one of these
Islamic schools. In fact, Taliban is
actually the PTO language word for
students. Talib singular is student,
Taliban students.
