Eli Lilly to ask FDA for weight loss pill approval

New data from Eli Lilly says a daily, oral GLP-1 pill may help people who have obesity and people who have Type 2 diabetes lose significant weight.
In health check this morning, another
weight loss pill is one step closer to
becoming a reality. Eli Lily announced
it is requesting FDA approval of
Orgipron, its GLP-1 weight loss pill.
Phase three trials showed patients lost
more than 10% of their body weight on
average and in a year and a half on the
highest dose of the drug. It also
lowered A1C blood sugar levels,
virtually curing patients of type 2
diabetes. Competitor Novo Nordisk is
seeking FDA approval for an oral version
of its similar weight loss drug, WGOI.
