CHINA Made Itself a JOKE When Copy SpaceX Catching rocket By Net...Musk is ahead of its time!
Landing has to be one of the areas where the creativity of rocket companies truly shines.
That said, China — a nation often known for adapting existing technology — has just introduced a bold new landing concept: catching rockets with nets!
It is an unusual and ambitious idea, and while it certainly shows promise, it may also face a number of technical hurdles and challenges.
So, how unique is this method? What issues could it face in real-world application? And more importantly, why is it so difficult to outperform the landing systems that SpaceX is already using?
Let’s explore all of that, right here on today’s episode of Great SpaceX.

Over the past decade, SpaceX has firmly established itself as a pioneer in rocket recovery technology. From landing boosters on autonomous droneships to catching massive vehicles with the Mechazilla arms, SpaceX’s innovations have revolutionized the concept of reusability. These systems have not only driven down launch costs but have also allowed SpaceX to achieve an unprecedented launch cadence. As a result, the company now leads the global race for reusable rockets by a wide margin.
It comes as no surprise that many aerospace startups in China have adopted similar strategies. Companies like Cosmo Leap and Deep Blue Aerospace have taken direct inspiration from SpaceX’s playbook, replicating vertical landings and booster reuse. But while imitation can offer a shortcut to results, there is also a growing sense of national pride and the desire to innovate. Some Chinese companies are beginning to explore original approaches, hoping to stand out in an increasingly competitive market.

One of the boldest and most unusual ideas to emerge recently comes from Space Transportation, a relatively lesser-known Beijing-based company. Until now, the company has primarily focused on hypersonic planes, but it has now shifted its attention to the orbital launch sector with a landing method that is unlike anything we have seen before: catching rockets with nets.
According to their recently revealed concept, Space Transportation plans to use a multi-tiered net structure supported by eight vertical steel columns. These columns are interconnected by lighter horizontal frames, forming a rigid foundation to suspend two layers of netting. These nets, which will be made from specially engineered materials for durability and resilience, are not your average mesh. Instead, they will be robust enough to withstand the weight and impact of a returning rocket stage.
