TALE OF TWO RINGS: When a South Jersey woman lost two treasured rings on the beach, a Cape May fire lieutenant and other beachgoers stepped up to help. 💍💍

My name is Jeffrey Lag. I am a 23-year member of the City of Cape May Fire Department.
I picked up metal detecting as a hobby and I operate a metal detecting recovery service here
in the City of Cape May and actually everywhere in Cape May County. For example, we'll take my
14 karat gold ring, place it in the sand and we'll show you what it sounds like.
So I was contacted by a lady named Laura and she had told me both of her rings may
be on the beach in Wildwood Crest. This happened on a I think a Saturday
and she called me the following Thursday and asked if I could go look.
I took my wedding band and this ring off my hands to put sunblock on and that quickly forgot about
them. Five days after I lost it, crazy wind, very rough surf and he was out there searching.
After that, that night he said, you know, could not find it. Shortly after that, one of my rings
was found by a woman and her niece and through the power of social media and Facebook got connected.
That prompted me to contact Jeff and see if we could start the search for my wedding band again.
I immediately went back down the next morning at 5am, got a little bit closer to water and I was
able to recover her diamond platinum band for her. I didn't believe it, just the emotion and
the happy tears that it had been recovered by this stranger. He picked up the ring that had
been returned, got the wedding band, took both rings and literally brought them to my doorstep
like a superhero. I'm just really beyond grateful for it. There are really good people who just
want to help and it's just awesome that that's another reminder that I have on my hand.
Found something. If it's going in the pocket, it means it's something good.
It's really satisfying just knowing that you got that irreplaceable piece of
their family history back. Not the right kind of ring. You find a lot of trash doing this.
I also work with a group of detectorists, in case I'm not available, who work all the way up and
down the entire New Jersey coastline and that's at the ringfindersnewjersey.com. I've always tried
to practice the motto of do right by your fellow man. I enjoy the experience. I enjoy getting out
here and doing this. I gladly accept tips, but I never charge anybody. I'll continue to do this as
long as my body allows me to.
