The Chinese authorities have recently reviewed China's international child support system, which has crossed the border, and have banned foreigners from adopting Chinese children.
Some experts have pointed out that this may be due to China's declining birth rate and the dark psychology of the authorities.
According to the news released by the U.S. Department of State, China officially suspended the international child support program on August 28, 2024.
At a regular press conference of the Chinese Foreign Ministry held on September 5, a Dutch reporter touched on this matter and sought confirmation from the Chinese authorities.
The Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs admitted to this fact, but did not provide a detailed explanation and only stated that it was based on the spirit of the international treaty.
The issue of child support in China is related to the one-child policy that began in 1979.
Due to the strict policy of child support, many women and children with disabilities were abandoned and raised in orphanages.
A former Chinese reporter from the U.S. reported that even though there was no war in the era of Social Media Platform X,
hundreds of thousands of children were abandoned in China, and there were no adoptive parents.
In the 1980s, the Chinese authorities began to engage in child support by foreigners, and in 1988,
it became possible for foreigners who had a close relationship with China and foreigners who had been in China for a long time to engage in child support.
In the Child Support Act, which was passed in 1992, further restrictions were eased,
and it became possible for foreigners to receive Chinese children as per this law,
and the door to international child support in China was fully opened.
As a result, the number of international child support groups is increasing year by year.
On April 27, 2005, China violated the Convention on the Protection of Children and Cooperation with Foreign Child Support Groups,
and China officially became a member state.
According to China Central Telecom, the number of foreign child support groups in China reached its peak in the past and exceeded 13,000,
of which 25.49% were adopted by foreign families.
According to statistics from the U.S. Department of State Child Care,
since the 21st century, the number of Chinese children adopted by American families has increased to a total of 82,658,
of which 29.2% were adopted by American families.
In 2005, the number of Chinese children adopted by American families reached 7,903,
and it reached its peak in the past.
However, since 2007, the Chinese authorities have gradually raised the standards of international child support groups,
and now the requirements for families who want child support groups have become one of the most severe countries in the world.
According to a report by the British Financial Times,
in 2014, the number of Chinese international child support groups decreased to 2,800,
and in comparison with 13,000 in 2005, 80% decreased.
In May 2020, the Chinese authorities resumed the policy of child support groups
and further limited the number of international child support groups.
According to a report by Voice of America,
the number of child support groups in China currently accounts for about 90% of the total,
and the number of international child support groups is decreasing year by year.
Since China has recognized the child support group of Chinese orphans by foreigners,
American families have played a major role as Chinese orphans.
This is proof of the friendship between the United States and China,
and Voice of America quoted the post of Share America, an ex-account of the U.S. Department of State.
According to statistics from the U.S. Department of State,
Chinese children adopted by American families in this century
Chinese children are 82,658,
and compared to 282,921 foreign children adopted by Americans at the same time,
China accounts for 29.2% of the total,
with 46,113 second-place Russians and 29,807 third-place Guatemalans.
In addition, the process of American families adopting Chinese children is not easy,
and a series of complicated procedures are required,
and they often have to wait a few more years,
and the cost of adopting children often exceeds tens of thousands of U.S. dollars.
This means that if there is no patience, faith, and love,
it is unlikely that many American families will go as far as to adopt foreign children.
On social media, there are many videos of American families adopting Chinese children with advanced disabilities,
providing treatment, and doing their best to recover their children.
Currently, hundreds of American families are proceeding with the application process for adoption,
and the U.S. government is negotiating with China on this issue.
Mr. Oken, a former Chinese media official,
believes that there are two reasons why the Chinese authorities suddenly banned the Chinese orphanage.
The first is that China's birth rate has dropped dramatically in the past few years.
In 2023, China's number of applicants was 920,000,
and in 2022, it decreased by 540,000,
and in 2021, it decreased by 254,000.
According to Wikimedia, China's birth rate had already dropped to 1.16 in 2021.
The reason why the Chinese authorities suddenly banned the Chinese orphanage
is the severity of the decline in birth rates and aging.
Mr. Oken said,
another reason why China suddenly banned the Chinese orphanage
is that it comes from the dark psychology of the Chinese Communist Party.
Mr. Oken pointed out the following.
Many of the children adopted by the Chinese orphanage abroad
were raised in foreign families and had a happy childhood,
and many of them have succeeded in their studies and sports,
and have become world stars.
Every time such a fact is disclosed in the media,
the Chinese government feels ashamed and closes this channel.
For example, Morgan Hard, who won the overall championship in the 2018 World Gymnastics Championships,
was an abandoned child born in Zokuji District, Chiwan, Kaohsiung.
Meili, who has a disability in analytical reasoning,
is also an abandoned child of a Chinese woman raised in an American family.
In September 2022, she became the champion in the Junior Tennis Championships.
She participated in the wheelchair tennis event at the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics
and aims to win the championship in her country.
At the Tokyo Olympics in 2021,
20-year-old Canadian swimmer Maggie McNeill
broke the record of 55.59 seconds,
and won a gold medal in the 100-meter butterfly.
She was born on February 26, 2001 in Kyukou, Kaohsiung,
but was immediately abandoned after birth,
and was taken by her adoptive parents when she was one year old.
Her life changed after she moved to Canada.
At that time, Chinese official media interviewed her
and tried patriotic propaganda,
but she replied,
I was born in China, but I am Canadian.
In response to this matter,
a net user criticized her for leaving her country
and becoming the first Olympic champion.
