According to a recent model simulation, China's objective of attaining carbon neutrality by 2060 necessitates the utilization of around 6 terawatts of solar and wind power.

China's present overall energy generation capacity would be doubled, while the existing capacity in the United States would be more than five times greater.

The research was conducted through a collaborative effort involving researchers affiliated with the University of California, San Diego, and Tsinghua University in Beijing.

According to their calculation, in order for China to achieve its ambitious carbon neutrality objective, it will require a wind power capacity of 2 TW and a solar power capacity of 3.9 TW. This amount is approximately ten times greater than the country's capacity in 2022.
