Analysts suggest that the recent visit of US Acting Under Secretary for Political Affairs John Bass to Pakistan has the potential to bring about a significant change in regional dynamics, with far-reaching repercussions that could extend to the Middle East.

According to sources, the visit of the former US ambassador to Afghanistan highlighted a crucial moment in US-Pakistan relations. They stated that Islamabad is in a position to be courted by Washington on various matters, including its strategic location in the midst of tensions between Iran and Israel, an energy agreement, and the problem of Afghan refugees.

"The visit of the US undersecretary holds great significance in various contexts," stated Nausheen Wasi, an international relations scholar at Karachi University, regarding Bass' two-day tour starting on Tuesday.

The foreign office of Pakistan stated on Tuesday that a fruitful conversation on all sectors of the bilateral relationship took place during Bass' visit, which followed Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi's travel to Islamabad a week prior.

Raisi's visit followed Iran's inaugural direct assault on Israel on April 15, which entailed the use of ballistic missiles and drones in retaliation for a prior strike by Israel on the Iranian embassy in Syria. Israel allegedly launched a retaliatory attack against military installations in Iran a few days after the initial incident, despite Tehran's attempts to downplay the counterstrike.

Given the heightened tensions in the area, if Israel were to escalate the situation, Pakistan, being a neighboring country of Iran, would be the sole "reliable partner to the United States" in the vicinity, according to Wasi.

Pakistan's strategic importance has been greatly increased. The US acknowledges Pakistan's importance and contemplates various developments in the area.
