Allies or adversaries? The US and China join forces to combat misinformation!

Amidst the US's efforts to combat foreign disinformation and manipulation in preparation for its November elections, a high-ranking official from the State Department stated on Friday that there is a possibility of working with Beijing, which is mostly unimaginable with Moscow, Pyongyang, or Tehran.

Elizabeth Allen, the undersecretary for public diplomacy and public affairs in the department, recognized that the potential for disruption is significant due to the increasing complexity of disinformation efforts supported by foreign states.

"China is exerting control over the information domain by strategically manipulating information to enhance their influence," she stated during her address to the Council on Foreign Relations.

Nevertheless, she emphasized that our relationship with China requires careful management in order to shape the future of the world in a unique manner and presents essential prospects for collaboration.
She cited the recent US-China discussions on artificial intelligence as a prominent example.
