Explanation of technical terms in less than 120 seconds.
Today, the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child and the Children's Rights.
As early as the 19th century, there was a desire to write universal children's rights.
At that time, it was mainly about mitigating the misery of children of lower social classes.
The goal was to protect children from death.
Hard child labor was commonplace.
One could not even think of a right to education or free personality development.
On November 20, 1989, the UN General Assembly passed the Convention on the Rights of the Child.
There, principles were drafted which, in addition to the responsibility of the parents,
also clearly referred to the responsibility of the treaty states in terms of children's rights.
These states were obliged to create positive conditions for the development of children and adolescents
with the ratification of the Convention,
to recognize and comply with the articles of the Convention.
In total, the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child contains 54 articles.
There is no convention in which more states have joined in the world.
The compliance of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child is monitored by the UN Committee on the Rights of the Child.
States that have ratified the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child
must issue reports at certain intervals,
in which they describe how they guarantee the implementation of children's rights.
The UN Committee evaluates these reports.
The highest right is formulated in Article 3 and covers the priority of the well-being of the child.
A further division can be made into the so-called rights of protection with all its articles,
the so-called rights of subsidy with all its articles,
and the so-called rights of participation with all its articles.
The entire UN Convention on the Rights of the Child is based on certain articles.
On the one hand, to determine who is defined as a child or teenager in the respective country, Article 1.
Then on the fact that the respective country is actually seriously trying to implement children's rights, Article 4.
In addition, information must be provided about children's rights in the country.
Children, teenagers and the population themselves must know that there are these children's rights, Article 42.
And finally, the respective country must send a report to the UN Committee at certain intervals, Article 44.
