The ketogenic diet is a low-carbohydrate and high-fat healthy diet
chosen by many people to lose weight and improve some aspects of their well-being.
In general, it requires careful planning in order to stick to the daily carbohydrate quota
and keep the body in ketosis.
This can mean giving up sweets, snacks and other high-carbohydrate foods,
such as many non-alcoholic and alcoholic beverages.
However, there are many low-carbohydrate alcoholic beverages
that can be moderately tasted even in a ketogenic diet.
In this video I want to talk about the best and worst alcoholic beverages to choose if you follow ketogenic.
Obviously, everything is always according to some scientific studies
that have analyzed this food style that I report to you below in the description of the video.
But first, welcome or welcome back to this new video on my channel.
I am Margherita, Keto Nutrition Specialist and Diet Coach and creator of WellDelight
and in my videos I talk about my approach to healthy diet,
in particular ketogenic, paleo, low-carb and detox.

Many low-carbohydrate alcoholic options are available if you follow a ketogenic diet.
For example, the purest forms of alcohol such as whiskey, gin, tequila, rum and vodka
are completely carbohydrate-free.
These options can be drunk smoothly or combined with other low-carb drinks
to give them a slightly different flavor.
Also dry wine, prosecco and champagne are relatively low in carbohydrates,
usually containing 3 or 4 grams per portion.
With these drinks you can also make low-carb cocktails.
However, it is necessary to avoid common drinks such as fruit juice, soda,
sweet drinks, energy drinks, which can quickly turn a carbohydrate-free drink
into a high-calorie bomb.
You can instead opt for low-carb drinks such as stevia-based drinks
or tonic water without sugar or seltz.
These options can keep the intake of carbohydrates low
while improving the flavor of your cocktail.
Many alcoholic drinks are high in carbohydrates
and some of them contain about 30 grams in a single portion.
For example, cocktails that are based on sugary contents such as juice, soda, sweeteners or syrup.
In addition, beer produced with starch and cereals can contain up to 12 grams of carbohydrates per portion.
However, remember that moderation is always the key.
Although many low-carb and keto-friendly alcoholic drinks are available,
this does not mean that they should become an irregular part of your routine.
All alcoholics, even if low in carbohydrates, are rich in empty calories,
which means that they provide many calories without any essential nutrients such as proteins, fibers, vitamins or minerals.
Not only that, excessive alcohol consumption can increase the risk of nutritional deficiencies over time,
but it can also contribute to a gradual increase in weight.
In fact, in a study conducted for about 8 years on almost 50,000 women,
it emerged that the regular consumption of at least one portion of alcoholic drinks per day
was associated with a significant increase in weight compared to a more moderate and sporadic consumption.
Alcohol can also suppress fat burning and increase body fat,
storing extra calories in the form of tissue stored in the body.
Excessive alcohol consumption can also contribute to other serious health conditions,
including diabetes, heart disease, liver problems and cancer.
For this reason, ketogenic or not, it is always better to maintain moderate alcohol consumption,
preserving it for special occasions and avoiding taking it on a daily basis.
Also in a ketogenic diet there are therefore many low-carb alcoholic drinks to choose from.
Wine, prosecco, champagne and the purest forms of alcohol offer few carbohydrates per portion
and are easily compatible with low-carb drinks such as seltz, soda or other sugar-free drinks.
However, regardless of your diet, it is better to keep alcohol consumption under control
to avoid negative effects on health.
As a general rule, both women and men should limit themselves to drinking alcoholic drinks only occasionally.
And if you want to consult a ketogenic week example menu,
based on the consumption of real and natural foods,
