"Ludvig van Beethoven's father was a tenor singer in the court orchestra of the Archbishop and Elector of Cologne, an insignificant man who was subject to his whims. ... Music was, of course, the element in which Beethoven moved from his earliest youth and which he had to pursue diligently, even with his strict father. He did not comply willingly with the harsh discipline that imprisoned him and deprived him of the joyful play of his peers, and what we later find in him in the form of unsociability and aversion to people are the fruits of a wrong upbringing. As his father was too strict, so his mother, Marie Magdalene, née Keverich from Coblenz, who died in 1787, was too mild and indulgent and, through her overly tender care for his every step, planted the seed of a lack of independence and unconcern for the demands of outer life, which also remained with him. His father's violin lessons from the fifth to the eighth year went hand in hand with his attendance at the public school in Bonn, whereupon the music director and oboe player Pfeiffer, a skilled piano player, took over the boy's further musical education and did so with better success than his hard father, so that Beethoven caused a sensation as a piano player after only a few years. At that time, in his twelfth year, he played J. S. Bach's "Well-Tempered Clavier" with the greatest skill and showed himself to be a prospective master in the art of improvisation and free imagination. Now the court organist van der Eden, and incidentally his college Neefe, trained him as an organist and began to introduce him to harmony and composition, so that Beethoven was already able to emerge in 1783 with six piano sonatas. Which he dedicated to the Elector of Cologne. He himself, however, later rejected all of these youthful works."

Ludwig van Beethoven composed the Piano Sonata No. 8 in C minor, Op. 13, also known as the "Pathétique", between 1798 and 1799, eleven years after his first piano sonatas.
In the video you can see red campion (Silene dioica) in an alpine meadow. In the language of flowers it means: "Ask for nothing but to be mine".
