2. Accudire a qualcuno
Accudire significa “prendersi cura di”.
Il verbo accudire è transitivo, e ciò vuol dire che è seguito direttamente da un complemento oggetto, e non da una preposizione (come A, per esempio).
Perciò la frase corretta è: “Accudire qualcuno”.
3. Adempiere ai propri doveri
Adempiere significa “eseguire, portare a compimento”.
Hello everyone and welcome back to LearnAmo! I don't get lost in chatting. In this video I will
present the most common mistakes that foreigners and also some
Italians make with Italian verbs. And I emphasize, these are doubts that often have
Italians themselves, so it's not a video for beginners, but it's still a video
that everyone can watch. I will present the mistakes in a list, one at a time,
and then at the end of the video there will be a kind of summary table with the things
that can be done and those that are considered mistakes. And so you can
photograph it, take screenshots to always keep it close to you.
Ok, let's get started!
ACCONSENTIRE means to give in, to give your consent.
Often, however, I see people using the verb ACCONSENTIRE with a direct object.
This, however, is a mistake. The correct sentence is, in fact, ACCONSENTIRE A
REQUESTA. Why? Because the verb ACCONSENTIRE is always followed by an
indirect object, introduced by the preposition A. ACCUDIRE means to take care of.
The verb ACCUDIRE is transitive. This means that it is followed directly by a
direct object complement and not by a preposition like, for example, A. No.
Therefore, the correct sentence is ACCUDIRE QUALCUNO.
ADEMPIERE means to perform, to carry out. This verb is also transitive,
so, just like the previous one, it is never followed by a preposition like, for
example, A, but it is followed directly by an object complement.
Therefore, the correct sentence would be ADEMPIERE I PROPRI DOVERI.
It is certainly a bit bizarre that a prize can wait for me, a person.
Yet, this type of sentence is often heard, also by some Italians.
Actually, here the problem is the verb used. The correct verb in this
sentence is ASPETTARE and not ASPETTARE. ASPETTARE, as you all surely
know, means to wait for the arrival or the verification of something or someone.
But what was meant in the original sentence is that a prize is due
to me by right, I have the right to receive that prize. And the verb that
expresses being due to someone by right is ASPETTARE, which, yes,
behaves like the verb PIACERE, so a prize is due to me, a prize is due to
me, which is the correct sentence.
ESAUDIRE means to realize and it is used almost only with the noun DESIDERI.
Also in this case, as we have already seen, the verb is transitive, so once again
it is not followed by the preposition A or other prepositions, no, it is only
followed by a direct object. So the right form will be ESAUDIRE I DESIDERI.
The verb CONSISTERE has two meanings, to be composed, to be formed by something and
in this case it is usually followed by the preposition DI. My breakfast
consists of milk and biscuits, that is, it is composed of and formed by milk and
biscuits. The second meaning instead of CONSISTERE is
the one of ESSERE BASATO SU qualcosa and in this case it is usually
followed by the preposition IN. So the right sentence would be IL MIO
LAVORO CONSISTE IN TRADUZIONI, that is, my work is based on
translations, it is not composed of translations, it would not make sense.
My work is based on translations. GRATTARE means to rub a part of the
body with nails or with an object. If instead you want to indicate the
sensation of discomfort on the skin that forces us to scratch, then the correct
verb will be PRUDERE. The correct sentence then is MI PRUDE LA SCHIENA and then
eventually you could add a sentence like PERCIÒ MI GRATTO IO LA SCHIENA.
MI PRUDE LA SCHIENA, IO MI GRATTO LA SCHIENA.
A very common mistake also by Italians is to confuse the verb INSEGNARE
with the verb IMPARARE. IMPARARE means to learn something,
acquire knowledge or skills. INSEGNARE instead indicates the opposite process,
that is, to give information or explanations to others so that they do
their own and internalize them. The correct sentence then is ME L'HA
INSEGNATO QUALCUNO and at most IO L'HO IMPARATO DA QUALCUNO.
Another mistake that many make is to use the verbs SALIRE and SCENDERE badly and
once again among the people who make this mistake there are Italians.
Both of these verbs can be both transitive and intransitive,
this means that they can hold a direct object but they can also be
used in such a way as not to be able to hold it. In general, when they indicate a
moto DALL'ALTO VERSO IL BASSO or viceversa, they are used in an intransitive way,
therefore with the auxiliary ESSERE because it is important the moto with a
destination, DAL BASSO VERSO L'ALTO, DALL'ALTO VERSO IL BASSO.
Also, always in this case, so always when they are used as
intransitive, if they are explicitly followed by the place where they went,
this is clearly introduced by a preposition, SU, IN, DA, SALGO IN TERRAZZA,
SONO SCESA DAL TAXI, SIAMO SALITI SULL'AEREO.
However, it is also possible to use these two verbs in a transitive way, with the
specific meaning of PERCORRERE IN SALITA or, on the contrary, PERCORRERE IN
DISCESA, so where the most important thing is the action itself, not a moto with a
destination. So, being used in a transitive way,
in this case they can be followed by a direct object, but be careful, the direct
object, in this case, is only the thing you walk on, up or down,
for example, the stairs, the hill, a slope, the steps, only this type of
complement object. And clearly, in this case, being used in a transitive way,
their auxiliary will be AVERE. Ho salito le scale velocemente, scendi i gradini uno
alla volta. But, certainly, it cannot be used as a direct object of the verbs
SALIRE and SCENDERE, the thing, the object that we are carrying with us, up or
down, it cannot be done, clear? And I have to say, this is a very common mistake,
especially in Southern Italy, but not only. So, you cannot say in Italian
things like SALIRE LA SPESA or SCENDERE IL CANE.
In this case, you should be more creative with the sentence and say things like
PORTO GIÙ IL CANE, for example, or PORTO LA SPESA DI SOPRA.
Well, at the restaurant, the bill is not called, but it is asked, maybe it is called
IL CAMERIERE, to ask for the bill. So, the correct sentence will be
CHIEDERE IL CONTO. USUFRUIRE means to benefit, to enjoy something.
In short, it's a bit like saying USARE, but to emphasize the idea of
USARE A PROPRIO VANTAGGIO, A PROPRIO BENEFICIO.
But, unlike the verb USARE, the verb USUFRUIRE is not transitive,
in fact, it is always followed by the preposition DI. So, the correct form
would be USUFRUIRE DEI GIORNI DI PERMESSO.
USARE means to have the courage to do something difficult or risky, or
AVERE LA SFACCIATAGGINE, to do something wrong or inconvenient.
In both cases, however, the verb is not reflexive, so it cannot be used
preceded by a reflexive pronoun. In short, the correct sentence is NON OSO
NEPPURE PENSARLO. Someone said, I don't trust those who never say
swear words. Do you agree or not? Swear words are an important part of
Italian culture, so they should be studied, even just to recognize them, if
you don't want to use them. And this is the basic idea that pushed us to
make our very last book, Swear Words and How to Avoid Them.
Thanks to this book, you will learn in a fun way all the Italian swear words,
you will discover many curiosities and their uses in context, through songs,
movies and TV series. You will also be able to listen to everything through the audiobook.
