Showjumping is a classic equestrian sport where horse and rider's strength, agility, and speed are tested as they leap over a sequence of obstacles.
Watch the exciting 17-horse jump competition featuring some of the best riders in the world at the Wellington Equestrian Realty Grand Prix - the most famous show jumping horse.
Since their introduction in 1912, jumping horses have become a staple in numerous contests. The competition is organized by performing jumping obstacles, including verticals, spreads, and combinations of doubles and triples, often with multiple turns and direction changes. The goal is to pass a set course within a specified time. The time error is evaluated as exceeding the allowed time. Jump errors occur due to knockdowns and disobedience, such as rejection. Horses are allowed to decline the number of times before being disqualified. A refusal may result in the driver exceeding the allotted time on the track. The ranking is based on the lowest cumulative number of points or "errors." A horse and rider who do not make jump errors or penalty points are said to have scored a "clear lap." Constraints typically transition through an advanced and shortened course, and the procedure is timed; if the entries are bound because errors accumulate at the start, the fastest time wins.
Show jumping has evolved significantly since it was primarily limited to one high jump and one broad jump; it is now a fully developed, varied, captivating, and exquisite demonstration of riding skill and finesse, horse talent, athleticism, and bravery.
