Anthony and Emily's 400-year-old thatched cottage is in desperate need of renovation when George Clarke pays them a visit. Can they transform their lack of space and years of dodgy additions into something suitable for modern living?
Previously, the living area was stale and dark, and a perilous stairway was crammed into one of the corners. The dining room was also a lonely room, which was separated from the kitchen by internal glazing and contained nothing more than a fridge, a freezer, and a tangle of wires.
The cottage was renovated and now has a sophisticated, classy feel. Thanks to some bold colors, the kitchen looks great with a table and retractable windows. The garden's wonderful, panoramic outlook creates a truly enchanting retreat. The upstairs bedroom is stunning. It is a unique space with a ceiling that is quite sharply pitched.
The perseverance and laborious work of Antony and Emily have unquestionably paid off. They've built themselves the most incredible house. But what makes this conversion particularly exceptional is their commitment to respecting the structures, forms, and history.
