James Webb Space Telescope has discovered that the center of our galaxy is a black hole 4 million times more massive than the sun and surrounded by millions of fast-moving stars. This black hole is covered by interstellar dust.
James Webb Space Telescope could find stars with unusual orbits or could observe a cloud of gas that would be scattered by gravity.
James Webb Space Telescope Missions (JWST or Webb):
- JWST looks for the first galaxies or bright objects to develop after the Big Bang.
- JWST determines the evolution of galaxies from their origin to the present day.
- JWST observes the process of star creation from its earliest stages through the development of planetary systems.
- JWST investigates the possibility of life in planetary systems, including our own Solar System, by measuring their physical and chemical qualities.
James Webb Space Telescope’s Facts:
- It is named after James E. Webb, who was the administrator of NASA from 1961 to 1968.
- It was launched in December 2021 after more than a decade of construction and cost 10 billion dollars.
- It weighs 6500 kg with a 14x21 meter sunshade, equivalent to the size of a tennis court. The telescope can see through the infrared spectrum.
