Ambassador Andrew Bremberg and Steve Yates joined on Global Watch to discuss the hot topics： Is it the best timing for Taiwan to be back to United Nations? Will China take military actions against Taiwan soon when military movement was observed on the coastal cities in China?
On October 26, Secretary of State Antony Blinken called on all United Nations member states to support Taiwan's "robust" participation in the U.N. system, contesting ongoing pressure from China to block Taiwan's access to international organizations.
However, with decade-long efforts, Beijing's campaign to secure more clout at the United Nations is now helping shield Beijing from international scrutiny. When China curtailed political freedoms in Hong Kong in 2019, two rival declarations circulated at the United Nations Human Rights Council. One, drafted by Cuba and commending Beijing’s move, won the backing of 53 nations. Another, issued by the U.K. and expressing concern, secured 27 supporters.
So, will Sec. Blinken’s new campaign be truly productive under current CCP aggression in international organizations? Does China "control/take over" many international organizations now?
