The California Department of Public Health announced that an L452R variant of COVID-19 is increasingly being identified in multiple counties across the state. The 452R variant has previously been detected in other countries and states, and is now increasingly being found in multiple counties throughout California. Previous studies have shown that the L452R is an immune escape mutant that significantly reduce monoclonal antibody recognition. This might be a very important reason that the COVID-19 cases in CA has a huge increase in the past few weeks.
